IIRC, In Dreams jumped between alt worlds, continents, dreamsequences and years.
To me that's advanced, or perhaps that's a nicer way of saying that I found it confusing.
It doesn't help that I can hardly work up any interest in alt-Clark and his world on my best day.
But I can understand the alt-world's appeal with ambitious writers, with greater freedom to develop the characters and story.
