I'm with Paul on the noodle/pasta issue. Noodles are things made out of flour paste; pasta is a subset of noodles, with Italian origins.
Oxford has this as the entry for "noodle": "A thin strip or ring of pasta served in soup, with a sauce, etc." (Though I'm not sure where that leaves shell noodles. )
