I'm mostly in the closet as well. My husband knows and has known since I got involved with my first fandom in 2005, although I know that he doesn't understand the infatuation with the TV shows or with writing stories about the characters. It's his inability to understand my interest that keeps me from sharing my stories with him.

My son also knows that I write stories, but he's only 7 and loves when I make up and tell him stories, so it's not a strange concept for him that I write some of them down. I've also shared my interest in fandom with a non-judgemental friend (kind-of mother figure for me), but I still don't want to share the stories themselves.

At the time I first started writing fanfiction, I didn't have another creative outlet and it was for my own sanity, but no one in my real-life reads my stuff. My stories are for me and fellow fans that 'get it.'
