OK, I'll bite. Why not? Because when Lois goes on vacation she ends up at a little hotel where she finds (literally) the innkeeper has been murdered by mobsters. She and the innkeeper's wife are held hostage and almost put to death. With excitement like that on vacation, why leave safety and tranquility of Metropolis?
