Lois almost reached over to place her hand over his comfortingly, but caught
herself. Clark, however, noticed the gesture. He looked at her blankly, which
in turn caused a twang of sadness to run through her.
"Clark, believe me, it's not your fault that your mind was on other things last
night. You had plenty of other stuff to think about than the hard facts. Hey,
can you imagine what *I* would have been like?" she said with a bark of
laughter.
