Another possible solution to your car dilemma -- could it be possible to have had them take Mayson's car up there? Clark could then assume that Dan would drive them back. Clark could still drive her home and fly back to the cabin.
That would also solve the ethics of having Clark let Mayson use Lois' Jeep.
