Happy Girl, I was writing my last post while you were posting yours, so I missed the comment about the Royals being in the playoffs. I haven't followed them for many years, but I was living in Kansas City during the I-70 World Series, the Cardinals vs. the Royals in 1985. My husband and I both grew up in St. Louis, so we were cheering at different times than everyone else in the room. And I remember stepping out of the room for a minute during the 6th game and when I came back the Cardinals had suddenly lost their lead and the game, and in the 7th game they lost the series.
So, depending on the time period of your story, the part about the Royals does not require suspension of disbelief.
