Ah - it's the cutting and pasting into Word which preserves the hard returns. Because .txt in Notepad imposes its own hard returns, unless you
open the file in Word you won't get rid of them.
So save the file, then open it in Word. Then select all and change into whichever font you find easiest for reading.
