Actually, Ray, keep in mind that Lois was manipulated by Lex. *Any* woman, no matter how strong or independent they are, can fall to manipulation.
Just something that people seem to forget about controlled women when they ask "How could she allow him to do that to her?". It may not seem like he's controlled her, but he has in his own way.
