It always bothered me that Lex shot Menken who was standing right next to Lois with no thought to her safety and then Lois went all "Ooooh, Lex, you saved me!" That's so totally "Gag me with a Spoon!" (Terribly sorry for the 1980s Valley Girl speak, but I couldn't come up with anything more apt.) Oh, wait, this would work:
Actually, in Speed (1994), Cop 2 got taken hostage by Bad Guy, Cop 1 shot first his partner in the leg, who then dropped and opened the shot up for taking out Bad Guy. Maybe it was inspired by Lex?
