I don't even know what to say except you definitely need to write in first person more often. This was just incredible. The subject matter of this story is extremely loaded and you're so good at capturing and conveying emotions.
I also think that writing it in first person made it that much more powerful.
You did a wonderful job, and you should be extremely proud of this piece. *mwah*
