Just poking around in the TOC and came across your story. As several others have mentioned, a code makes perfect sense for Lois and Clark. I think it makes more sense for Clark to fight for his identity than let Lois grieve and try to pick up the pieces later.
The dialog was perfect, too. Two thumbs up.
