I'm guessing that he made it in "ghostly" form until some time in Lois's early life. IIRC, she had been rescued by him when when was six(?) years old; he must have been corporeal then. So he "only" would have to wait a quarter century (plus or minus) for her to become an adult and travel backward, and then forward again, in time. That's assuming, of course, that adult Lois doesn't also wind up leaving the time stream a little early. If she does, she would either avoid the Lanes or else perhaps pretend to be a long-lost relative of theirs.
