I agree with you about the benefits of finding this story after it was completed. I think it would probably be a more enjoyable read without the breaks between chapters. It was my initial plan to post it quickly, but then RL and my muse conspired to give me
Interesting comment about the police looking for the simple answer. I think that time restraints and experience would force them to do this. I doubt they have the time or inclination to investigate all the possible 'what-ifs' when a case appears to be straightforward.
