She really is mean, and more likely to blow up over nothing that use that pretty head of hers. I promise, you do get a look inside of her head, and an unfolding of her thoughts concerning the stranger she's been forced to marry.
I didn't want to make Lois *such* a witch, but I didn't really see any other believable way that she'd deal with an arranged marriage. So she's a little mean still in the next chapter (still the same day as this one) but she will warm up, I promise!
