Lots of inner-babble to admire, but I loved this bit:
It's 'gauntlet' Lois. He can make you forget your words, isn't that interesting Lois? Even in your thoughts, he makes you flustered. Shut up, shut up, shut up.
Also, I loved how you showed Clark's easy-going manner and teasing, but also slipped in his fears about sticking around with his secret to protect.
Now he looked like a scared rabbit. He had obviously been hoping that she would let it drop or toss something else at him to spar with. And she had used his first name in addressing him, hoping to show him that she actually wanted a honest answer.
He was fidgeting. She couldn't do this to him.
"Clark?"
He looked up at her and swallowed nervously. "I don't want to be let down gently because I don't want to give up on it."
Lois doesn't understand the significance of his statement, but we do.
Lovely story that would be even better with a sequal <nudge, nudge>
