The glasses are advanced Kryptonian technology that prevent people from realizing that Clark Kent has another identity as a space alien. (Really!)
Given the widespread Facial Recognition Deficiency Syndrome that runs rampant in the L&C universe, I sometimes wonder if there really was something like that going on with Clark's glasses.
