I've used Dells, HPs, a very old Toshiba satellite, a WinBook, Vaios, and Gateway, and I muck around with a lot of laptops in the course of my job. My best luck has been with the Vaio, though the Toshiba was nice back when I still used it.

If you're leaving the laptop in hibernate mode instead of turning it completely off, it's possible for the battery to drain a little even while the laptop appears to be off. This is likely not a problem with your laptop if it just charges a little bit.
