See, 'the holidays' is a phrase that just doesn't exist in colloquial British English, so your question doesn't resonate with us cranky, nitpicking Brits laugh . In fact, maybe I need a clarification. Does 'the holidays' only refer to Christmas? Can Easter be 'the holidays'? Can you wish someone 'Happy Holidays' and mean either 'Happy Christmas' or 'Happy Easter'? What about a day like 4th July or Thanksgiving?
