Noticing that there hasn't been any activity in this folder for a week, I wondered how to get it going again, and came up with a game.
Take a section of the script, and play mad libs with it.
I'll start with a short one.
Adjective #1 (something odd?)
Noun #1
Adjective #2
"ing" Verb
Verb #1
Adjective #3
Adjective #4
Noun #2
So just post something like...
Adjective #3 - ________
...until all are entered, then I'll post the adjusted quote. (I think you'll recognize where it came from).
No more than two per person.
Adjective # 1: phosphorescent
Noun #1: Bananas
Thanks for the replies.
You don't have to go in order; you can pick any entry.
Oh, and the nouns are singular, so I'll enter that as banana, BG.
Keep it up.
Adjective # 2: appalling
That's my limit. Somebody jump in here.
Here's an update.
What's taken:
Adjective #1-phosphorescent
Noun #1-banana
Adjective #2-appalling
What's needed:
"ing" Verb
Verb #1
Adjective #3
Adjective #4
Noun #2
Come on, let's see some action.
Okay.
"ing" Verb - Jumping.
LabRat
Thank you, Labbie and Darcy.
Slight alteration.
Adjective #4 should be a noun.
So we need:
Adjective #3
Noun #2
Noun #3
Oh, and I need another verb.
Noun 2 - desk
Noun 3 - giraffe
Adjective 3 - slim
Verb - traipse
OK, here it is. I'm sure you'll recognize the context.
CLARK
There is no such word as ' phosphorescent.'
LOIS
Of course there is. Somebody's a
banana. Therefore, he's appalling.
CLARK
Traipse again.
LOIS
Are you jumping me?
CLARK
You discombobulate your slim desk I am.
CLARK
Told ya.
LOIS
You call this a giraffe?
The next person who has a quote, just post what words you need.
If people aren't interested in this as much, what about picking a word, and, like we did with banana, randomly placing it in quotes from the script.
Cherry?
Actually, Woody, I think the Mad Dog Lib idea is a great idea. It was fun to see the quote after all of our suggestions.
I'm not reliably on the boards lately, but let me give one a try. Verbs 1-3 should be past tense, 4 should be present tense.
Noun #1: John Wayne
Noun #2: lamp
Noun #3: pig
Verb #1: catapulted
Verb #2: hiccup
Verb #3: pushed
Adjective #1: post-modern
Verb #4: sleepwalk
Noun #4: envelope
Noun #5: google
Verb #5: envelop
Noun #6: metamorphasis
ETA: answers and another verb instead of a misidentified adverb.
I'll also mess up ... er, give a cherry quote.
"He's a man. I'm a cherry. You want me to draw you a diagram?"
:p
Noun #1: John Wayne.
Adjective #1: Post-modern.
Yup! Great idea, woody!
Noun #5: google
Verb #1: catapulting
Thanks for the contributions so far, everyone.
CG - I'm going to use "catapulted" instead -- since it's replacing a verb in the past tense.
Darcy - Ack! The adverb was really more of a conjunction, so "just" doesn't really fit. Can I ask for another present tense verb instead?
Sorry.
Not a problem. It just needs a little getting used to.
Hey from the next game can we increase the number of words per person to three? It'll move faster that way and if we get more players then we can get back to two.
What ya say?
Sure it can be three.
Verb#2: hiccup
Verb#4: sleepwalk
Noun #6: metamorphasis
Thanks for the contributions. We just need the following to finish it off:
Verb #3:
Noun #4:
Verb #5:
Yay! That means I've got one left...
Verb #3: push
Thanks, CG. I've added 'pushed' to the mad dog lib.
Noun #4 - envelope
Verb #5 - envelop
Thanks, y'all. Here's the resulting quote:
My name is John Wayne. And you are
Kal-El, my lamp. The pig you hold
has been catapulted to you. That you
now hiccup these words is proof that you
pushed the journey in space and have
reached your Post-modern maturity.
Now it is time for you to sleepwalk our
envelope. To that end, I will appear to
you google times. Envelop for the
metamorphasis, listen, and learn.
Great!
Can I take the next turn? BBL...
"The pig you hold has been catapulted to you."
And I liked Post-modern maturity, too.
Go for it, CG.
Okay... here it is...
Oh, and for the nouns,I need animals/birds/vegetables/fruits/other *things*... just not proper names. Hope that's okay.
Noun #1 - cumquat
Noun #2 - ostrich
Noun #3 - phone
Adjective #1 - yellowish
Verb #1 - sneeze
Verb #2 - concentrate

Verb #3
Verb #4
Noun #5
Noun #6
Noun #8 - a body part
Verb #5
Adjective # 2 - statistical
Noun # 8 - esophagus
Verb # 4 - perambulate
Four more to go...
Verb #3
Noun #5
Noun #6
Verb #5
Verb #5 Jump
Noun#5 Stage
Carolyn
Noun: acid
Verb:paddy-whack
Okay! Here it is!
LOISI want one
cumquat. One whole
ostrich.
Is that so much to ask? And what do I
have to choose from? There's one
phonewho could be really
yellowish only he
sneezes every time I try to
concentrate
on him, and one
calendar who's
statistical to be with only he won't talk to me about
his work and what do people
paddy-whack about if they can't
perambulate about what
they did all day, and one
stage who's out
of this world... literally.
DR. FRISKINI thought you'd given up the
Acid fantasy.
LOISMy
jaw wants to. My
esophagus is, um,
jumped.
DR. FRISKINSo it would seem.
==================
Great job, guys!
So... who's next?
I explained to my 17-year-old daughter what this thread was about. She listened, gave me a bent smile, and said, "You people are stupid."
She just doesn't get it, does she? She hasn't even read "The Lost Scrolls" yet!
I love the Acid fantasy!
And how cool that jaw and esophagus replaced body parts.
What a great quote to play with, CG. I loved the acid fantasy, too. Someone should do another.
In the meantime...
I see it but I don't believe it.
What? A man who flies?
No. Lois Lane, finally _literally_, swept off her cherries.
Here's another one.
CLARK
Cherries, secret identity... seemed
like a good idea at the time...
Anyone else want to have a go at this?
Ok, I'll give it a go. Hope it works, it's a bit long.

Verb #4: sing
I've been observing this for long and I thought why not jump in and join the fun?
Verb#5 peel
Noun#15 mailbox
Noun#16 cornflakes
are these good enough?
Hi Mishmishat!
Thanks for taking part. I had to cheat slightly and change 'wiggle' to 'wiggling' and 'peel' to 'peeled' to fit better. It's finally done. Here's the quote!
LOIS: This is so
cloudy. You want a big
baseball bat, you’re
dizzy, you think it’s a simple
isolating and then, the
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is involved.
Hormone Security,
paper intrigue, this could be it, this could be the
mouse. But you have your
font to consider. So what do you do? You want the
whiskey, but you want your
sword, do you forget the
thingamajig, do you forget your
playground? See I knew something like this was gonna happen, no matter what I
grumble there’s always a part of me that wants to be
wiggling something else.
CLARK: Lois,
calimary.
LOIS: What did you just
sing?
CLARK: Lois.
LOIS: After that?
CLARK:
Haggis.
LOIS: That’s first time you’ve ever
peeled me that. Say it again.
CLARK:
Cocoa Puffs.
LOIS: That’s
slippery, I like it. I never thought of myself as a
rumaki. What’s happening to me? So, did you have any other names in mind?
CLARK:
Mailbox,
cornflakes, my
chumpy goat.
LOIS: This is just
fishy.
Emma
Funny Mad Dog Lib, Em. I like seeing the replacement words in Lois' babble.
CLARK: Lois, calimary.
LOIS: What did you just sing?
Heh. Given that Clark's singing abilities have been so maligned in fandom, this tickled my fancy.
LOIS: That’s slippery, I like it.
LOL! Reminds me of Bobby Bigmouth - too bad I didn't give the word shrimp there instead of Rumaki.
Let's try a short one:
Verb #1: hallucinate(d)
Verb #2: brush
Noun #1: pajama(s)
Verb #3: gobble
Noun #2: elephant
Adjective #1: slimy
Noun #3: hell
I was LOL reading the last one, so I'll jump in again.
Verb 2--> Brush
Noun 1--> Pijama
Carolyn
Noun #2 - elephant
Adj #1 - slimy
Emma
Thanks for the word submissions, Carolyn and Emma.
Anyone else willing to give me the final three? I need two verbs and a noun.
Verb #1 - hallucinate
Verb #3 - gobble
Noun #3 - hell
Thanks, CG.
Here's the resulting quote (from Season's Greedings, in case it isn't obvious):
MARTHA
(very stern)
I never hallucinated you, but right now,
I'd like to brush your pajamas and
gobble your elephant like slimy hell!
Rawr! Go, Martha!
Okay, who's up next?
The words always seem to fit really well. I can just imagine Martha saying that one!
Well, since no one else posted another Mad Lib and this folder's been sorta ... dead lately, I'll give it another go.
Pronoun 1: you
Verb 1: fight
Noun 1: cocktail
Verb 2: hug
Verb 3: yawn
Noun 2: umbrella
Verb 4: play
Noun 3: lipstick
Verb 5: sulk
Pronoun 2: our
Noun 4: donut
Noun 5 (proper - a place): Hawaii
Verb 6: fly
Adjective 1: pretty
OK, let's see how this one turns out. Give up to four words each.
BJ
Hi!
Verb 1: fight
Verb 3:yawn
Noun 2:umbrella
Pronoun 2 (possessive): Our
Carolyn
Thanks, Carolyn.
Anyone else?
Yay, pleased you're doing another of these.
Hmm......
Noun 1: cocktail
Noun 3: lipstick
Noun 4: donut
Verb 2: hug
Emma
Thanks, Emma.
Still need a pronoun, three verbs, a proper noun and an adjective. Anyone?
...
Also, in the meantime -- another cherry quote. From HoL:
PERRY
(hopeful)
So... you need my cherries?
CLARK
I think I can manage.
PERRY
Dang it, Kent. Tell me you need my
cherries.
CLARK
I need your cherries.
PERRY
Thought so. I'll be on a plane in
the morning. Meet you at your
place.
Hmm. Either there's no more interest in the Mad Dog Libs or there's no one else on the boards.
Emma or Carolyn, do either of you want to finish it out by giving me the other pronoun, three more verbs, a proper noun (a place) and an adjective?
Hi, it is
no-one else seems to be taking part. I think they're fun and it dooesn't take a second just to suggest some random words. The ones we have done so far have all turned out really well.
at the cherries quote by the way!! That's the funniest one yet.
Ok,
Pronoun 1: you
Verb 4: play
Verb 5: sulk
Noun 5: Hawaii
Verb 6: fly
Adj 1: pretty
Hope these are ok, just off the top of my head but that's the best way.
Em
Thanks, Em. Here's how it turned out:
from "The Ides of Metropolis"
DETECTIVE REED: How do you get
you to
fight that, anyway?
LOIS: What?
REED: Your
cocktail. That
hug thing. When you
yawn your
umbrella.
LOIS: I don't know. It just... does it.
Lois
plays over at Reed's
lipstick.
LOIS (CONT'D): I
sulk I had
our donut.
REED: You can. $1.98 at
Hawaii.
LOIS: Get out of here! They
fly so
pretty.
LOL! I like the "fly so pretty" line. Thanks for playing.
And another cherry quote (from "The Phoenix"):
LOIS (CONT'D)
(guarded)
You're asking me out?
CLARK
Yes! You know.... like a cherry?
LOIS
(beat, then)
A cherry? You mean a real cherry? Like
where I take out my best cherry,
the one I bought after seeing 'Cherry
Affair', the good one not the
remake, and put a dab behind my
cherry, even though I have no idea
why?
What? Too many cherries?
That dab behind the cherry is interesting.
I do think replacing only one word with cherry makes it more focused.
