How do we know he lost his powers?
We don't. I assumed it given the description that Shayne gave us of Lois finding Clark in New York.

There wasn’t a hint of recognition in his face, but it was clearly his face.
Now Shayne didn't mention that Clark had a full beard and long hair, (which he still might have), but I assume that Clark looks much like he did before he was lost. If I had lost my memories, but couldn't shave my beard the way most people do, then I might put two and two together and come up with Superman.

huh
I could be wrong, though. I'll just have to wait for part two to find out more.

This is a well-crafted vignette which would also make a delightful setup for a longer tale. Have at it. laugh

This *is* my happily ever after.

I have to admit I'm a little jealous of your ability to write powerful vignettes as well as intriguing epic-length stories. But jealous in the good way. smile

So while I'd be thrilled to read more of this premise, I also love it just the way it is.

So, let’s see…
Quote
That’s what Dr. Friskin said, and Lois sometimes found herself believing it. There were times she’d go for weeks at a time without thinking about either of them, but always she’d be pulled back into it.
Okay?

Quote
What if she’d insisted he go to the doctor after he’d been hit by the car?
That sounds like Nightfall…

Quote
She’d been distracted by the end of the world.
Yep.

Quote
It hurt her to think of Superman floating alone, dead in space, floating behind the asteroid he’d managed to deflect in time to save the human race.
Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy.

Quote
Yet even her work wasn’t what it once had been. She hadn’t been nominated for a Kerth or even a Merriweather in two years. Other writers had made huge sums writing about Nightfall and the passing of a legend. Lois hadn’t written anything.

Lois wasn’t going to let him go.
/grabs on to faint hope of a sequel/

Great viggy, Shayne!

Great story. I go looking for a Riders of the Storm update and found this. Thanks!
