It's been entirely too long since we've had a poll. And since we have what seems to be an influx of new FoLCs, we should get to know each other a little better. (And because I can, I'd like to make a little plug for #loisclark on IRC, where you can come and talk to some of us! We're fun!)

1. What does your board name mean?
2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
3. When did you start watching L&C?
4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
8. What is something you never leave the house without?
9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
11. What is something you collect?
12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

********************************

My answers:

1. What does your board name mean? I'm an editor (and here everyone thought I was just evil for a living) and jax is a play on my maiden name.
2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? Washington state, and I love that we have all types of landscape -- mountains and ocean and plains and a rainforest. Oh yeah, and Nordstrom. laugh
3. When did you start watching L&C? Halfway through the first season, in 1994. I had to beg my mom to stay up until 9.
4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 4, 2, 1, 3.
5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? Desperate Housewives.
6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? I make awesome chocolate truffles and my fettucini alfredo generally gets high marks.
7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? The WSU Cougars.
8. What is something you never leave the house without? Cherry Chapstick and my BlackBerry.
9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? Kltpzyxm and DaisyMay390 in IRC; I was so excited to find fellow fans my age after all these years!
10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Lois Lane. wink
11. What is something you collect? Jewelry in little blue boxes with white ribbon.
12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Of course. I love polls.

Clark: "You don't even know the meaning of the word 'humility,' do you?"

Lois: "Never had a need to find out its meaning."

Mmm cheese.

I vid, therefor I am.

The hardest lesson is that love can be so fair to some, and so cruel to others. Even those who would be gods.

Anne Shirley: I'm glad you spell your name with a "K." Katherine with a "K" is so much more alluring than Catherine with a "C." A "C" always looks so smug.

1. What does your board name mean?

When I came to FoLCdom, I was fresh out of a Batman fandom. So rather than choosing a Superman-related name, I decided on Queen of the Capes because of my awesomeness in two superhero realms. ^^

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I *currently* live in a dorm, and I love the faster internet! wink

3. When did you start watching L&C?

Hm. I first saw it when I was a little kid (came in the middle of "Lois and Clarks", of all things), but wasn't that interested at the time. When I was older, TBS showed reruns....I think I was a teenager, but I honestly forget when it was. o_O

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

1, 2 (or 2, 1 depending on my mood), 5 wink , 4, 3

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

....uh...I seldom watch TV anymore, so I guess none of them :p

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

Well, I do have a way with baked chicken and curry; but I've also been told I have a knack for pie crusts. *g*

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Sports have *teams*? eek

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

My purse, naturally wink

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Hmmm....talking or chatting or---? I guess maybe Paul, though I probably spoke to other people too...JulieS is another early one. And Dave, where are you these days??

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

The world's youngest Doctor. wink

11. What is something you collect?

Comics blush

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Hmmm, I guess so. It's been a looong day, though, and I'm not quite all here. Otherwise, I'd have much awesomer answers.

My name is JD and I am a poll junkie. PS, there are several of us on LJ, so please tap into that if you're new! Would always love to add you to my list.

1. What does your board name mean?
Heh, that's a great question. I discovered lately I really just have a thing for shadows and sneaking around. One of these days, I'm going to do a photo shoot of shadows...

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
I live by Gulf Shores, and I really love my friends and the people i work with. And it's nice to know that if I need a vacation, the beach is a short car drive away!

3. When did you start watching L&C?
Aw, from the Pilot episode. I squealed about the previews for weeks before it came out.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
2, 1, 3, 4...I think. Really three of them tie for first place, and then whichever season has the clones is last. :p

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
Grey's Anatomy. It's really my only must-see. Everything else, I watch reruns.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
Definitely desserts right now, which I find hilarious because I can't eat most of them, but I make some MEAN rum balls. Otherwise you can usually find me cooking my 5 billionth piece of chicken for dinner.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
Either the Mets (how about the new stadium!), or the team at the university where I work.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
Chapstick!

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
Erm...I have a bad memory, but an early conversation involved Pam and hiding behind ficus trees in the IRC channel...

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An artist. Couldn't seem to put down that pencil, so I couldn't be happier today.

11. What is something you collect?
Watches. I'm ridiculously frugal to the point of crazy...until you let me loose in a Swatch or a Fossil shop.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Definitely!

Cheers,
JD

1. What does your board name mean? I died as Bethy in Little Women in high school, and soon after that I started playing online. I was uber paranoid about people finding out my real name (still am – with some very general info on me, plus my first name...you can google me) so I was DeadBethy. After awhile, I dropped the dead, kept the Bethy, and now it’s a pervasive nickname online and RL alike. I like it.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? I live in an apartment with no doors and the walls don't go to the ceiling. One thing I love about it: The mirror wall. Sounds tacky, but really isn't. Other thing I love: My roommate...who is ditching me to go live with her parents in the suburbs to save money. frown

3. When did you start watching L&C? From the get go. We would record L&C and Seaquest, while the whole family watched Murder, She Wrote. Scary were the weeks when we were out of the house at that time – two VCRs + 3 shows = Bethy lost out on L&C.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: Um...2, 1, 3, 4? Maybe?

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? I don’t have cable and get crappy rabbit ear reception...so...um...does online “air” count? Bones, Chuck, Mentalist, House. Dude, all one word titles. Bizarre.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? Burning specialty: Popcorn. Cooking specialty: Spaghetti sauce. Baking specialty: UUUGGGLLLYYY cookies. They taste really really good, though.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? {whisper}The Detroit Lions{/whisper} {duck and run}

8. What is something you never leave the house without? Keys. School pass that gets me on public transportation. Cell phone...yes, I’m a techno-addict.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? I emailed Nan Smith to tell her I liked her stories and ask what this “list” she kept thanking was...

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A mommy.

11. What is something you collect? Wow, used to have so many things for this...Books, but now I go to the library more than buy. TV shows on DVD? Electronics, definitely. {glances lovingly at all three personal computers}.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Hm...wasn’t bored before. Am not bored now. So...no? But was greatly entertained, nonetheless!

Thanks, Jenn!

Cool, a poll!

1. What does your board name mean? Well, I can't really divulge, but I would like to point out that my initials are B.S. That was accidental.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? I'm living in a basement suite and right now it's hard to think of something I like about it. Maybe that I only have another two months in it?

3. When did you start watching L&C? Two years ago, almost exactly. I was on a procrastination marathon to try to get out of writing a paper and some kind soul had posted a whole bunch of the episodes online.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 3 (just the first half), 2, 4, 1. I think. There are epis I really like in S4, but then a lot of episodes I just can't stand.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? It changes a lot, but right now I'd have to say it's Chuck and The Office

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? Hmm... I would have to say Tuna Casserole. Easy and yummy.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? Usually whichever team is playing against the Vancouver Canucks, which is my brothers' favourite team. wink

8. What is something you never leave the house without? My student ID. It gets we WAY too much free stuff to be left at home.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? That would be Nancy, my first BR. I was brand new to the boards and too intimidated to even ask for a BR without throwing my first chapter up and running for cover. Luckily, she responded to my pathetic plea and sent me an email.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Ballerina. Of course, I don't think I've really grown up yet, so maybe I still have time for that. Ha ha.

11. What is something you collect? I like to collect handouts/old assignments/class resources from classes I've taken in the past. My idea is that once I'm teaching they'll all magically transform into lesson plans that I can use with students while putting in minimal work. I'll let you all know how that works out.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Yes! But I'm not less tired, so I think I'll have to head off to bed regardless. This has been fun! Thanks for putting it up.

1. What does your board name mean?

I'm a mad Hawthorn fan (the Hawks) in AFL (Australian Rules Football) and it tied in with Lois being 'Female Hawk' in 'Just Say Noah'.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

Victoria, Australia. The beach, the lifestyle, the sport and usually, the weather.

3. When did you start watching L&C? mid S2.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 3,4,1,2

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? There isn't one.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? Chicken carbonara.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? Hawthorn (see above).

8. What is something you never leave the house without? Wallet, keys, phone.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? Iolanthe (assuming 'talking' can include email!)

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A vet.

11. What is something you collect? Stamps.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Yes!

1. What does your board name mean? My childhood nickname was "Sister Sue", so I went with Sue when it came time to create an alter ego.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? I'm in the Western US, somewhere high in the Rocky Mountains and I absolutely love the mountains and the high desert. I also love that I'm within a day's drive of no less than nine spectacular national parks (Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Rocky Mountain, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Zion, Great Basin, and Death Valley).

3. When did you start watching L&C? From the very first episode, baby!

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: One/Two (I can't pick, I love them both for different reasons), Three and then, way off in the distance, Four.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? "Bones", "The Tudors" and "The Amazing Race" There are two others, "Dexter" and "Mad Men", but they're currently on hiatus.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? Several things, actually. I love cooking!

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? Pittsburgh Steelers!

8. What is something you never leave the house without? A bra

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? When I first found the boards, back in early 2006, I was a total lurker. I wanted to try my hand at writing so I posted a plea for a beta. <crickets chirping> Then Sara (tvnerdgirl) posted a similar request so I wrote to her and asked if she'd like to trade betas with me. I caught the luckiest break ever when she agreed. She's since left the fandom (school) and I still miss her horribly. She's awesomely fun and witty.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I didn't really have a goal for later, I just wanted to be Cindy Brady (from "The Brady Bunch") at the time.

11. What is something you collect? Refrigerator magnets.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? I wasn't bored, just looking to delay getting ready for work. Now I'm late. laugh razz

Lois: You know, I have a funny feeling that you didn't tell me your biggest secret.

1. What does your board name mean?

I could probably cut and paste this somewhere from an earlier thread as I've told it before. laugh But to cut a long story short, I posted a TV question to a teletext page which was (very unusually back then) frequented by people who used nicknames. I thought for a bit and finally came up with Doc. Klein's LabRat. It was just after S4 ended and I was feeling nostalgic already. When I got onto the net for the first time and found FoLCdom, a few months afterwards, it seemed natural to keep using the nick. Gradually, it got shortened to LabRat (or Lab or Labby or Rat or a dozen other variations).

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

Cumbernauld in Scotland. It was one of a number of experimental 'new towns' in the early '60's, built to bring families out of the tenements of Glasgow and provide healthy living. I've lived here since I was six months old and what I like about it is that it's quiet and peaceful and surrounded by countryside.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

Can't remember the year, but it was about a year and a half, maybe, before S4 premiered in the UK. I had – embarrassingly enough – no interest in LNC when it was airing prior to that. In fact, I spent a great deal of time teasing a good friend for her obsession with a kids' show. Something she has never failed to remind me of since. And I'd never had an interest in Superman comics as a kid, so it largely passed me by.

Then, one day, on holiday, I caught a few snatches of one of the Clone arc episodes - only enough to gather that Clark Kent was having to deal with an evil double of his wife - and my radar pricked up immediately. For as long as I can recall I've had a fascination with plots involving evil doubles and memory loss. I've been known to watch shows I normally hate if that's the plot of the week. And here was a show giving me both at once!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch any more at that point and I mostly forgot about it. Until a few months later when I caught an ad for re-runs on one of our cable channels. Even then I managed to miss most of the first episodes of S1. I think the first episode I caught in full was Phoenix. It wasn't love at first sight, but I was keen enough to come back each week and gradually I realized this was a show I really loved…and the rest is history.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

1,2,3,4. I enjoyed them all, but I liked the early seasons best.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Hmmmm. Not sure these days there are shows I can't miss. I've learned in my time that I may believe that I can't miss them but if I'm forced to it turns out I can. laugh I've also learned not to get too broken up when my favourite shows end because something else will always come along to catch my interest.

Let's see. At the moment, I'm taping S2 of Ashes to Ashes, S3 of Dexter, S4 of Supernatural.

Oh, hang on, thought of one! The Daily Show. Stuart and I never miss TDS and I'm always bereft when it's not on because of a break.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

Well, mostly my cooking skills consist of 'place in microwave, wait for ding'. But I've been having to get to grips with some minor cooking to help me with my diabetic diet and I'm keen on a particularly simple and tasty chicken noodle soup recipe that I found online. To my amazement, last week I invented a fish stew which actually works and tastes great. Sadly though, I'm usually one of those people who throws various ingredients in a pan on spec and ends up with something totally inedible. I envy my sister-in-law who does that and ends up with a five course gourmet dinner.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

I hate sports. My philosophy is if you want to be involved with a sport play it. Don't watch someone else playing it. I had a temporary love of Formula One for a few years, back in the day, and supported Scot David Coulthard, but that waned.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

Homer. <G> He has some minor health problems which mean we can't leave him home alone so he comes with us everywhere.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Gosh, all but lost in the mists of time. I remember being terribly excited when I went on irc one evening and discovered one of my favourite nfic authors – Menolly – was in the room. Came over all gushing fan and utterly mortified myself. Other than that, I can just remember talking to most of the 'names' around at the time, either because I was asking questions about how things work in response to things they'd posted or because I was sending them fdk about their fanfic. (My first big intro to FoLCdom was sitting every night for a period of several months, downloading as many fanfic from the Archive as I could in the two hours online time I was allocated and then sitting up into the small hours reading. So my first real contact with FoLCs would undoubtedly have come out of that source.)

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Nothing specific. All I knew was that I wanted to work with animals and outside. I wasn't going to be stuck in a stuffy office, typing, like 99% of girls were expected to. I even refused to join the typing lessons at school in my zeal to avoid that fate. Which is, no doubt, why I spent the majority of my working life stuck in an office, typing. razz

11. What is something you collect?

Books! Can't get enough of books. And DVDs. My twin passions. Keep me supplied with both and I'm content.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

LOL. Definitely. I wasn't so much bored as procrastinating over updating the TOCs. <g>

1. What does your board name mean? It's my first and last initials, plus "dragon." There's a story behind how I decided to create it, which makes it short for "dry-skinned dragon," but I won't go on about it here.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? Frederick, Maryland, USA. I like the look and feel of the downtown area.

3. When did you start watching L&C? When the pilot aired--I was ten.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 1, 2, 3, 4

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? I don't have any shows I watch every single week, but my sister TiVos Dollhouse and I watch that with her and our friend Kayla whenever my sister has time. Also, I'm waiting for the seasons to end for Psych, Numb3rs, Bones and Smallville so that I can watch the whole seasons all at once during the summer. I was bummed when I heard that Pushing Daisies got cancelled after the winter hiatus, because that was the only show I was actually watching every week this season.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? I don't really like to cook, but when I do, I make a pretty mean omelet (among other things).

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? I don't follow sports--I'm terrible as a spectator, and can only stand to actually play very few sports, and even then only rarely.

8. What is something you never leave the house without? My car keys.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? LabRat--I'd just submitted my first L&C fic to the archive.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I had no clue whatsoever what career I wanted (truthfully, I still don't), but I knew I wanted to get married and have kids--haven't got that yet either.

11. What is something you collect? Magic: The Gathering cards. And books--I have hundreds of books.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Only slightly--now that it's over, I have to go back to the boring stuff.

1. What does your board name mean? It's my real name. Oddly, the boards and archive are the only places online that I use it.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? Charlotte NC. I love that there's so much green in a big city (I lived near smaller cities that was completely overrun with pavement, not a landscaped median to be seen). I love that almost everything I need is within 5 minutes of my house. And I absolutely love the light rail that can take me downtown within 30 minutes. We're a big city now!

3. When did you start watching L&C? I want to say somewhere in the first season. My father and I watched SeaQuest together, so I think I caught it on a night that SQ was a rerun.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: Er, can't rank, but I know I don't like the clone and NK arcs.. the rest are sporadic

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? Chuck, Heroes, Big Bang Theory, Fringe, Lost, CSI. I love House, but it loses out to BBT because that one isn't online. I just have to wait the 8 days for House to be online.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? My husband would tell you everything, except for bread. I can do homemade cinnamon rolls, though!

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Chicago Bears. Makes it hard if any of those teams play each other.

8. What is something you never leave the house without? Keys. I've been locked out of the house a few times because I thought the husband had his since he was driving.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? Oh geez, I really don't remember. I started off on the newsgroups and quickly moved to the AOL chats. Then a few years later I hit IRC, and freaked out when Wendy and a few others called me by my first name! (Had it in my IRC settings, couldn't figure it out. LOL)

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher or an astronaut. I thought of both, until Christa McAuliffe. The astronaut dream died in my pre-teens, the teacher my 3rd year of college.

11. What is something you collect? Books and novelty t-shirts

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? A little.. I'm still at work. laugh

1. Vicki is my real name.

2. I live in Puerto Rico. Lots to love about it, but my favorite is seeing the beach from my house.

3. Started watching L&C when the reruns were on TNT.

4. Seasons 1, 2, & 3. I not as fond of Season 4, although it did have its moments (like AKA Superman, which cracked me up).

5. I rarely watch TV.

6. I cook a mean Pastelon (a local specialty, similar to Shephard's Pie, made with mashed plantains instead of mashed potatoes)

7. The N.Y. Mets. I grew up in upstate NY, and I can still remember how our teachers allowed us to listen during class on our little transistor radios to the 1969 World Series. laugh The Mets will always have a special place in my heart.

8. I never leave the house w/out my cell phone.

9. I don't remember who the first Folc I talked to was. The only Folc I ever met personally was named Vicki, just like me. She came to Puerto Rico and we went together to the premiere of the movie "Flight of Fancy" (which was filmed here). We met ALL of the actors EXCEPT Dean Cain, who was the only no-show. frown The next day we went with our husbands on a day trip up the mountains to the little town where the movie had been filmed. We laughed the entire day. What a great memory. smile1

10. I wanted to be a wildlife researcher, like Jane Goodall.

11. I collect books.

12. Definitely less bored. smile

Well, I'm at work, bored and being completely rejected, so I was wandering around. Figured this could be a nice thing to waste time with, not that I expect my answers to be interesting to most people...

1. What does your board name mean? It's from the title of a song, The Eyes of Lara Moon by a British progressive rock band that I absolutely adore, called Arena -- and since Lara happens to be someone "important" in the Superman universe...

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? I leave near Montréal, Canada. Can't think of anything I seriously love about the place - I can tell you what I hate: it's too damn far from Alaska!!

3. When did you start watching L&C? Right from the moment it started airing, in the 90s.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 1 and 2. I like to pretend that the other ones don't exist.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? blush Smallville... I also watch "The Big Break" on the Golf Channel (yes, you read that right), "Survivor", "House" and "NCIS"

6. What is your cooking (or burning) specialty? I can make crèpes. That's where it ends.. lol!

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? I don't root for a team of anything. I do root for Phil Mickelson, though. (and for anyone who doesn't know who that is, look for him in the intro of Witness. "Don't be afraid to hit the ball. The ball's not going to hit you.")

8. What is something you never leave the house without? My keys and my bus pass. wink

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? There are two -- LabRat, when I sent in my 1st story to the archive, which I hadn't posted on the boards because I didn't even know that existed. And Caroline is the first person from the boards that I remember talking to -- she helped beta one of my first stories. smile

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut. lol!

11. What is something you collect? Action figures? Stuffed animals? ...yeah, I guess those.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Yes. But I'm still lonely and sad...

I CANNOT believe that I didn't put NCIS - probably because the last couple weeks have been reruns. It's the only series I own all of [besides L/C and Friends].

Tony [Michael Weatherly] has the second best smile on TV - after Clark wink .

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?northeast Florida, the weather in spring and fall
3. When did you start watching L&C? I remember watching and enjoying reruns in college, but I didn't seriously watch until after I got in to the fanfic in 2006.
4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 1,2,3,4
5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? None. I do usually watch Supernatural but mainly because my husband does.
6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? Gofers - family name for no-bake chocolate/oatmeal/peanut butter cookies.

8. What is something you never leave the house without? chapstick
9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? It was the first time I was on #lanekent. I remember the date (8/22/06), but it's hard to remember the people. I know Lori was there, and I'm pretty sure Jackie and Holly and... Deb, maybe? But at any rate, I had just signed up for IRC that day, and it was my birthday. Lori put two and two together, and the result was that the very first time I ever signed on to #lanekent, the topic was 'Happy Birthday, MrsMosley!' Isn't that awesome? Talk about a great memory.
10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A singer, an FBI agent, a National Geographic photographer. Kind of still regret that last one, actually.
11. What is something you collect? Nothing much, anymore. My clutter tolerance is a lot lower than it used to be.
12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Definitely less. They were good questions!

1. What does your board name mean? Initially I used the nickname "Zoar3" simply because I was a newbie and didn't necessarily want to give out my "real" name. blush To answer the question, smile , I chose Zoar after the Sorceress' character from He-Man and the number3 has always been my "lucky" number. Mona, please call me that on here now, smile , is my real first name.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? I live in the city of Angels or rather DODGERS. laugh . Eventually I hope to settle in a small town somewhere near the ocean. For now, this crazy place I've lived in most all my life is home.

3. When did you start watching L&C? I think after the first few episodes of season 1. I had just started my first year of college.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 1, 2,4 and :p 3.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? Really nothing. I'll sometimes watch TLC, House Hunters on HGTV, or the Regis version of Millionaire on GSN but that's all save the Dodgers.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
Me cook? Lol. I "cook" Kraft Mac and Cheese expertly. laugh

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? The Dodgers though at the moments it's a little hard being "blue." The Atlanta Braves will also have a place in my heart for what one of their announcers came to mean to me during a turbulent time in my life during college when I was way out of Dodger range but got TBS.

8. What is something you never leave the house without? A few $ and cents. Also if I'm driving my license is most helpful. I admit to having forgotten it exactly twice in all the eyars I've been a driver. First time as young teen and second blush a few months ago when my arms were bundled down with other things that I completely forgot my purse until I had began driving. Oops.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a Dodger, a teacher, a chemist who discovered the cure for cancer and most of all a pediatrician. So far I've been a teacher and am trying to save $ to return to school to take pre-med classes.

11. What is something you collect? Baby-sitter's Club Books. I now only need 3. I still have some favorite stuffed animals both left over from childhood and newer. Oh and those miniature animals that you put in a shadow box. Anyone know of where to find them these days?

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Sure.

1. What does your board name mean?
It's a concatenation of my real name. I sort of use it interchangeably with my real name anyway.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
In a house in a small town in the US Pacific Northwest. I love the summers. They make the rain all the rest of the time worth it.

3. When did you start watching L&C?
Right at the beginning. Then I went away for a long time and only rediscovered the series last year.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
3(except for the stupid clone/amnesia thing), 2, 1, 4

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
The only TV I watch is Smallville and I wouldn’t watch it except for Lois.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
Homemade spaghetti and mashed potatoes. (Not together!) No one in my household really cooks much.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
The Orlando Magic. I was living in Orlando when the team was formed.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
My phone. Love having a cell phone.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
Dandello. I sent some notes on how much I enjoyed various stories to some authors but never really talked with anyone until Dandello agreed to beta my first story.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A scientist or an engineer. However, I would have settled for being an astronaut. I guess it’s just as well the first choice worked out since I get motion sick.

11. What is something you collect?
A few years ago I would have said SciFi books. However, I believe the fabulous Beverly would suggest that the answer today should be laptop computers. I presently own 5 that work, another that doesn’t and that isn’t counting my work laptop.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Yes. But I still have work to do that I managed to delay for a few minutes.

1. What does your board name mean?
It's Greek for my first name, which is Roman in origin. Also I was a fan of "Wild Wild West" with Artemis Gordon as the science nerd type. Besides, it's a gender neutral name.
2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
Near Death Valley, CA (California fly-over country) East of the Sierra Nevada. It is quiet, really quiet (except for the military jets and helicopters) and it is cheap (relatively) to live here. Also my house is Prop 13 (which says my taxes can't be raised above the assessment when I bought the house).
3. When did you start watching L&C?
The first two hour show that was remanufactured into the Pilot in 1993. I had just come back from a one year tour at the Pentagon and thought "Oh no, they're going to screw it up", but to my amazement I really loved Deborah Joy Levine's take on the Lois and Clark relationship.
4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
1,4,2,3 argh the Dieter and Wanda Detroit arcs, but I liked the NK arc.
5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
Burn Notice, Bones, Smallville (not because it's great but because it's new Superman plots), NCIS (my homies) goofy CSI, CSI: Miami, In Plain Sight, Numb3rs (to see how much I can remember from college), Eureka (but fading), Castle (if it stays as good as it started), Chuck (if it continues)
6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
I'm a microwave expert. Pulled port roast (15 min per lb at 50% power. Try it) Other than that, I can cook anything since I raised 2 kids. Soup is a specialty.
7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
mecry There is NO professional football team in Los Angeles. It was the Rams until Georgia F. hauled them to St. Louis. So it's whoever is 2 games from the Superbowl now.
8. What is something you never leave the house without?
My Keys
9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
WendyR, Irene Dutcher and LabRat
10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A physicist or engineer
11. What is something you collect?
Money? No, that's not right. Ah! Sci-Fi books, LnC Fanfic and nfic.
12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Yes

1. What does your board name mean?

I was looking for a penname while listening to the song “Ramona” by Guster. Shortened it to Rona. V is the first initial of my last name.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in South Carolina. There are a lot of great parks here, and I can easily make a day trip to Charleston.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

Started with the Pilot in 1993. I was instantly hooked.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

2, 1, 4, 3. Ish. Depends on my mood. They all had their good and bad (and really bad) episodes.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

I haven’t watched television in months (except for the occasional dvd).

6. What is your cooking (or burning) specialty?

I love to cook. My husband probably likes my lemon-chicken cutlets and my Italian “gravy” (spaghetti sauce) the best. I think I make a mean pot roast.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

University of South Carolina. And trust me, that loyalty is tested annually. They can be really, really bad.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

Carmex. And my cell phone, even though I rarely use it.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

I went into IRC once for a Kerth ceremony one year, but I just lurked. I’ve never really had a conversation with any FoLC unless you’ve been lucky enough to have me as your GE. wink Too bashful, I think. You think you get nervous posting fic? I get nervous posting fdk. And this poll.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Secretary, dentist, astronaut, author, singer, actress, journalist, criminal psychologist. Then, one day I suddenly had no idea (that happened around the time they started pressuring me to declare a major). And now I still don’t really know what I want to be when I “grow up.”

11. What is something you collect?

I have kept all my boarding passes from any flight I've ever taken. They make great bookmarks.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

I was. Now that the poll is over, I’m bored again.

1. What does your board name mean?
Well, my name is Nancy Smith, so Nan is kind of obvious.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
I live in Ramona, CA. I like the fact that it's a relatively small town -- small for Southern California, that is. It would be a small city in the Midwest. This is why the idiot writers in Hollywood made Smallville the size of Indianapolis.

3. When did you start watching L&C?
The first episode I saw was Pheromone, My Lovely, and I was hooked.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
Season 3, except for the clone arc. Season 2, Season 1, Season 4.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
None. I haven't watched a tv show all the way through in months.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
I make a mean Taco salad, but my specialty is B'stilla, which is a Moroccan chicken pie. And it isn't anything like American chicken pie, believe me. I takes about 3 hours to make, and looks really odd, but it's been a hit everywhere I've taken it. My hubby took it to his office Christmas party. It took a little while for people to work up the nerve to try it, but after someone did, he brought home an empty pie dish and several requests for the recipe.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
None, really. I'm a Tiger Woods fan. I can take baseball or football, or leave it. Usually I don't have the time to watch a game all the way through.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
Uhh... Not sure really. My purse? And I certainly never leave without my clothes. laugh I hate to leave my cell phone behind, but I do forget it with embarrassing frequency.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
Wendy Richards, I think, via e-mail. I wrote her a fan letter and she wrote back. At the first LAFF I attended, I think the first person I spoke to was Anita Hook.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I think I always wanted to be a writer, but my mom convinced me to go into nursing, on the grounds that I could always find work in the profession.

11. What is something you collect?
I used to collect comic books, mostly Superman laugh and science fiction books. Now I don't think I specifically collect anything. If I did, my little house would be more crowded than it is.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
I'm not bored. I'd like a little healthy boredom now and then.

Nan

1. What does your board name mean? It's my chinchilla's name (Though he was Vif, since he was a guy. I have a vague memory of it meaning "colorful" in a French dictionary, but I'm not sure) 60's just a random number cause vive didn't work by itself.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? College right now, in Virginia. I'm experiencing the strangeness that is dorm life. The best thing in the area- the caving. Sadly, all our bats are sick and the caves are closed. whinging Poor bats.

3. When did you start watching L&C? 6 years ago now...yikes! Now I feel old.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 2,1,4,3

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? House MD I think it's still on the air anyway...evil finals...

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
Baking. Though I like making tacos too, and then there were those pizza bagels...
Burning has got to be the popcorn. I think our hall's microwave is possessed. No, really. If one bag goes 30 seconds and there are no popping sounds, just billows of gray smoke...and then the next bag goes two minutes with actual popping and turns out great...and then another goes 5 minutes inflating but with just two popped kernals...and it keeps happening like that with all different brands and boxes of popcorn....

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? Sports? Who has time to watch sports? Time that could be spent on something much more interesting...like say, taxes. wink

8. What is something you never leave the house without? Keys. No, really...I've seen girls out in the hallway in nothing but a towel, waiting for our male security guy to unlock their room- awkward. Not to mention the ones who have to knock on random doors to find a phone to call said security...Shudder.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? My mom...not that she's around here still, thank goodness. That would be kinda weird. She mostly just gave us kids her old tapes to watch, because my brother loved Superman.... She hangs out in the Stargate fanfiction now and that's creepy enough. There are just some things you do not want to know about your mother.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A cat owner. My dad was allergic...and stray cats just kept showing up at our door...we must have given away fifteen of them to neighbors and the shelter. Sadly, dorms do not allow pets. And my dad's allergies cleared up last year whinging

11. What is something you collect?
Homework. (My to-do pile keeps growing) Seriously...well, I collect plastic shopping bags. I just know there's got to be somewhere you can recycle them. I'll find it one day. Meanwhile they make good packing material...and trashbags, and kites, and weird braided plastic rope dog leashes, and messed up buckets for water fights, and nets for catching tadpoles, and good banana peel substitutes for when my roommate gets too annoying, and I discovered in art class that melting them makes this sort of toxic smoke that is ideal for canceling class, and....

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? yes, particularly with the plastic bags, though I will admit, I've only thought about the last two ideas...maybe this weekend
evil I'll get a chance to try them out.

1. What does your board name mean?
My initials... sort of. Although, mlt is not really my initials. Perhaps you could just call them my pretend initials since my real initials are m.e.t. laugh

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
I live in a shack in the bush - and what I love about it is that it is a shack in the bush.

3. When did you start watching L&C?
Sometime during first season. I was watching Murder, She Wrote. During a commercial, I was channel surfing and came across this show where the two main characters had remarkable chemistry. And I was hooked. Didn't even realize at the time that I was watching a Superman show. That probably would have turned me off.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: That's like asking me to say which of my children I love the most. I love 'em all equally.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
None.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
Apple pie (and it's one of the only things I know how to make). I use apples from the apple tree in my back yard. Sometimes I switch it up during berry season - using blueberries, strawberries, saskatoons and rasberries (all of which also grow in my back yard - and you wondered why I love my shack in the bush laugh )

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
The Saskatchwan Roughriders.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
My car - because it's not as if I can walk anywhere since I live in a shack in the bush.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
Don't remember.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A hooker. What can I say? It sounded like a fun way to make some decent money. wink

11. What is something you collect?
Large parcels of prime real estate. Oh, wait! That's only something I wish I collected.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Yep.

1. What does your board name mean?
My first name and the initial of my surname.

Sydney, Australia. At the moment, my love of Sydney is diminishing – it’s becoming more expensive every day and the violence is increasing rapidly.

3. When did you start watching L&C?
When it first aired here in Sydney. I was already a Superman fan so there was no way I wouldn’t give it a go. laugh

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
2, 1, 3, 4.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
Torchwood and So you Think You Can Dance (Australia). smile

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
None – I can’t cook! smile1 I had been a lurker for quite sometime when I decided to send her an email about her stories. To my surprise I got an answer. She gave me the courage to de-lurk.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional dancer

11. What is something you collect?
I used to collect spoons but I stopped awhile back. I ran out of space to put them.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Definitely! sloppy

That is AWESOME. I am rolling. It also reminds me of something. When I was pretty little (I want to say four or five), I always liked fancy, pretty bags, like shopping bags. So when people asked me what I wanted to be, I'd say a bag lady. My mom was so horrified. laugh

I am very much enjoying reading all of the answers! We have some fun FoLCs! wink

1. What does your board name mean?

Back in the early days, I was an assistant Sysop on the CompuServe SFMedia forum for the L&C section. We had message boards, a library, and a chat room called "the Daily Planet". I didn't know what nick to use, but someone suggested that if I was in charge of the Daily Planet, obviously I was the Chief, so... ChiefPam. I've been too lazy to change it since then wink

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in North Carolina, and I love that we can have warm sunny days all year 'round. They're not normal in, say, February, but they do happen.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

1995, late second season, second half of Tempus Fugitive. I'd seen bits before then but hadn't been hooked 'til I saw a Lois who knew CK=S.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

3, 2, 4, 1

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Ummm... nothing at the moment.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I can make chocolate chip cookies from scratch.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Carolina Hurricanes (hockey)

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

My cell phone. I can check Facebook, read my email, and play sudoku with that...

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Oh, gosh it's been so long... most of them aren't around anymore. Paul Weiner, Sarah Woods... first one I met in person was Chris Mulder.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A mom.

11. What is something you collect?

College textbooks, apparently. They talk about buy-backs but haven't wanted any of mine yet...

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Not especially, but now I'm not scared to see Jenn anymore :p

"You told me you weren't like other men," she said, shaking her head at him when the storm of laughter had passed.
He grinned at her - a goofy, Clark Kent kind of a grin. "I have a gift for understatement."

"I have a...."
"Oh, shut up."

1. What does your board name mean?

Initials and last name. When I first started on the internet in the mid 80s, I didn't realize that you should try to be anonomous. I'm too old now to change my habits.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

Pittsburgh, PA. What's not to love?

3. When did you start watching L&C?

From the very beginning. Recorded and saved all episodes, which I only recently got rid of since I now have the DVDs.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

Two, One, Three, Four

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Bones

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

Chocolate Chip Cookies

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Pittsburgh Steelers (although they never suck), Pittsburgh Penguins, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Ok, they suck. But we are off to a good start this year! Maybe our losing streak will stop at 16 straight seasons.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

Clothes

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

I have never actually talked to any Folcs yet. But Sue S. was the one that made me post my first message when I found out that she speaks Pittsburghese. I'm still a lurker, but I think I may be up to half a dozen posts by now.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An adult.

11. What is something you collect?

DVDs

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Much less bored. Although I now need to get back to work, so I guess I'll be bored again.

Well, I've heard about something called "the Pittsburgh toilet" (toilets installed right in the middle of the basements of many Pittsburgh houses, no walls around them or anything)--that sounds pretty unloveable.

But then again, you have a Primanti Bros. restaurant, so I guess it balances out. smile

Yeah, alot of the older homes do have a toilet in the basement, as well as a shower. They were built so that the guys coming home from the steel mills could get cleaned up without tracking the dirt throughout the rest of the house. Most people have put up walls now. It also has another name - "Party Toilet". This is where guests who have had too much to drink are sent so they don't mess up the "good toilet".

Can't beat Primanti Bros!!! 15 locations included PNC Park and Heinz Field!

It's not "right in the middle" of the basement. At least, not the two I've seen. They were against the wall, kind of tucked in the corner along with a shower and a sink. Like dawebb said, they were actually a practical idea since the basement/cellar portion of a house in hilly Pittsburgh will usually have its own entrance from the outside. So the millworkers/miners could come home, go inside and get cleaned up before going upstairs. They certainly weren't/aren't the only toilet in the house!

As to the party connotation, well, let's just say that the ones I've seen were both located in homes being occupied by college students. laugh

It used to be my nickname at school, but I upper-cased some letters to reflect the initials of my full name... sort of.

Currently (since 10 months) - Dublin, Ireland. I love the sun... whenever it deigns to shine.

3. When did you start watching L&C?
1995: Man of Steel Bars. I was living in a country where some scenes (one or two episodes even ) were censored. I didn't see the series in its entirety until some years ago and they had reruns on TNT, I think.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
I enjoyed them all, but my episode rewatching preference is: Season 2 -> Season 1 -> Season 3 -> Season 4

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
None

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
I firmly believe in takeouts and restaurants.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
House keys... Otherwise I'll be locked out.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
I think it was Sara Kraft.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A historian

11. What is something you collect?
Books and Keychains

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

OOOOooooo, a poll. I love polls... and your alfredo.

1. What does your board name mean? Long story. But it involves my dad telling me disturbing stories as a child. I find them funny but other people could be offended. PM me if you're super curious.
2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? Houston, TX - It's TX, which is the best state ever. We're super conservative, have the rodeo, Astros, and surprisingly, not bad traffic compared to some other places I've been.
3. When did you start watching L&C? Hmm...sometime in HS but I think LnC was already off the air. Maybe '99.
4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 2,3,4,1
5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? The Office, though I don't usually catch it on tv and have to catch up via the Internet.
6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? Hamburger Helper - Cheesy Enchilada
7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? Houston Astros
8. What is something you never leave the house without? What?! Me?! Leave the house? I wouldn't think of it! /says the pregnant lady on bedrest
9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? Tough One. I think Teej. Though Jenn came shortly afterwards.
10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Honestly, I can't remember ever wanting to be anything. I'm not very ambitious. LOL. I probably wanted to be Princess Leia or something like that.
11. What is something you collect? I used to collect little glass figures of cats (very kitsch). Now, I don't really collect anything.
12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Absolutely!

My grandfather had one of those in the corner of one room of the basement in his house in Ohio (about 3 hours from Pitt). And that's exactly what he used it for. He worked at a plastics plant, and he'd go in the side door and directly down to the basement to get cleaned before coming back upstairs.

Initials for my first and middle names

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
About 30 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia. I moved here from the San Francisco area (which I miss desperately), so I'm still working on loving it here. I do like 4 of the 5 seasons... Fall, and Spring are wonderful, Summer and Winter aren't bad, but I could do without the two months of "hotter than hell".

3. When did you start watching L&C?
Late 2006, I think, when a FoLC introduced me to the show. I watched all four seasons on DVD.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
There are things I like about all the seasons and it depends on my mood. Right now I'd have to say S2, S1, S4, S3 (blame it on the Argh!)

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
Doctor Who. Although with the imminent departure of the 10th Doctor, that may not last past the next 3 specials.
grumble

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
I love to cook (mostly because I love to eat)! My current kick is Japanese food: Nabemono, tonkatsu, tempura, lamb curry with rice or udon, and homemade tsukimono (my favorite is red cabbage pickled in rice vinegar). I also have great recipes for Minestrone and Borscht, lasagna, ginger-pork fried rice and pasta salad.

If I have to pick a specialty, though, then I'd have to say baked goods. I've had compliments on my scones, cobblers, brownies and pies.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
I don't really follow sports, but I do enjoy watching every once in a while. I usually root for the underdog (if there is one).

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
Depends. If traveling by car, then my wallet/drivers license.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
Kathy Brown

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Wealthy. Oh, did you mean which career? A teacher, an accountant, a mom, a professional student, an illustrator/author of children's books

11. What is something you collect?
When I was a kid, I collected unicorns (not the real kind) and books. Now, the only thing I collect are my son's art projects and school papers.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Absolutely!

1. What does your board name mean?

It's easy. Jenni, part of my first name and Debb, part of my surname.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in Dundee, Scotland. One thing I'm not too fond of is our weather. Apart from that, Dundee is on the coast, but also close to the Highlands of Scotland, so I have the best of both worlds when I want to go for a drive. I do love our scenery. Also, I am enthralled with Scotland's history and enjoy visiting castles and even more ancient sites.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

I watched it from when the pilot aired in the UK, though didn't become totally hooked until the second season. Thankfully, Sky 1 showed all four seasons, and without the sweeping cuts which the BBC decided were necessary. Some silly women complained it was too racy for a family show after Virtually Destroyed was aired.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

3, 4, 2, 1. Though I have favourite episodes in each season.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Not sure there are any shows around which I cannot miss. I do like Doctor Who, and will copy each episode in case I'm elsewhere. I do like the US show Life, but mainly because I've been a bit of a fan of the UK actor for a few years. He reminds me of one of my cousins. I also watch Supernatural, though I feel that's a guilty pleasure.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I'm not a great or imaginative cook. I can manage plain meals like roast chicken or roast beef, but I cook for necessity, not enjoyment.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

I have supported Scotland's rugby team for many years, but the glory days are gone. The current team sucks, but I do keep hoping.

The other sport I and my husband follow faithfully on TV is Formula One motor racing. Is that a Scottish thing? I notice LabRat mentioned it, though my hero is from an earlier era of the sport - Sir Jackie Stewart, and that's not for his good looks!

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

I'm not sure I have anything in particular. Probably my purse ... the UK meaning of the word. I know the current trend is toward plastic, but I just hate to be without some real money.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Another Scottish folc named JacMac. I went onto IRC thinking I would be talking to people from far off parts of the world, and the first person I met told me I wouldn't know where she came from because it was a very small, obscure village in Fife. I couldn't help but laugh because it's only a few miles away from where I live.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I would have liked to have been a drama teacher, but when I was young you had to pay to go to the Royal School of Dramatic Art, and my family just didn't have that kind of money.

11. What is something you collect?

Probably books. I do have a clear out every so often, but there are many I just can't part with.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Lol. Not sure I was bored before I started.

1. What does your board name mean? - Smiley was my nickname years ago when I worked as a waitress. I was very shy but smiled a lot so as not to seem unfriendly! The name stuck for years after I gained confidence mainly because there were two Emmas and it was easier for me to be known as 'Smiley'. There a lot a lot worse nicknames!

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? I live in a village near Grantham in Lincolnshire, England. Hmm, what do I love? My village is pretty but Grantham is really quite dull. Its claim to fame is Margaret Thatcher was born there and I went to the same school as her, though about 50/60 years later.

3. When did you start watching L&C? I watched it from the beginning but 'Tempus Fugitive' had me really hooked, it was from then on that it was completely unmissable for me. That ep just had such an effect on me, I couldn't get enough of the fact Lois had been allowed in on the secret, even if it was only temporarily, and it was so incredibly well done.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: Hmm 2,3,4,1? I don't know, there's so little between them I change my mind a lot.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? Desperate Housewives and Home and Away (Aussie Soap). For a soap it is very well acted and written, I've been hooked for years.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? I can't really cook many meals, but I bake good cakes and muffins.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? The England Football (Soccer) team.

8. What is something you never leave the house without? My favourite lipstick, my phone.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? I've never talked to any Folcs from the boards but after 'Tempus Fugitive' my best friend from school and I were obssessed by the show for years. We had our own little Folcdom going on. Neither of us had the internet when the show was airing, we missed out on so much. We're still in touch but she's long since moved on. My love for the show and loyalty remains, I can't imagine anything ever replacing it.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? An actress/singer, or a reporter!

11. What is something you collect? Nothing really, I'm a shopaholic but don't collect anything in particular.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? Yes!

1. What does your board name mean?
I have my very own Clark Kent (a farmboy) and he thinks of me as a Little Tornado. He also thinks of me as a "Breakfast Elephant" because I eat a lot but I am tiny, go figure. He just likes the sounds of the words I suppose. But yeah it made more sense to use The Little Tornado than Breakfast Elephant.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I currently live in Fremantle in Western Australia. What I love about it is that it's a city really but everyone knows everyone else as if it was a country town. I have lived in central Freo for a long time now and you get to know the people who run the businesses and who work here. People feel personal ties here due to family history or it being the place they have run their small business from. It's a hotspot on the weekends for nightclubs and things like that but it is also bohemian and full of artistic creative people and music. It's a political centre. It was the port town for the Western Australian colony and state and still is and out of the dockworker's movement came the Labour Party. The Labour Party has a stronghold in Freo and is currently the party in power in Federal Government in Australia. Freo is the place where such movements get started and is a safe place to be for anyone different in any way. I haven't found people who are more accepting of difference anywhere else in Australia including the supposedly more multicultural and cosmopolitan cities like Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Apologies to anyone from those places, I mean no offense, but when I have been there it feels as if difference is only accepted if you are a) part of a clique or b) if being a different in a particular way is the fad of the moment.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

It was aired in Sri Lanka in the 90's but I never got to watch it having had to be at my dancing classes instead. I was aware of it and I read fanfic for ages and lurked before I got the DVDs in about 2005/2006/2007 and started watching. I knew I hated Season Three and Four. I knew that in my gut somehow.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
Hmmm... Season 1 - just fun writing and the cutest Jimmy Olsen ever! Then Season 2 which was less wonderful cos they took away Jimmy and some of the situations were clearly contrived but there was still some good writing. Seasons 3 and 4 I am not sure I even want to rank really because I really don't think they should have gotten together so fast. I know that in the time of the show it was supposed to be two to three years but that was never made that clear to the viewers (the idea that a lot of time had passed). I always felt that they finished one story and mystery one week and the next week was the next episode which meant that about three seasons would have to go past before they got halfway through one year.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

I actually don't watch TV anymore. A lot of it is rubbish and all the good stuff seems to be on cable which I can't afford. I have heard rave reviews of Heroes but I have yet to see it. And I am bit nostalgic for what we had in the 90s. So I am at a loss as to a TV show. There is nothing I watch religiously. I'd say if TIME TEAM (Archaeology show), ANTIQUES ROADSHOW (new episode please) or MICHAEL PARKINSON was on, I'd watch those. I used to watch the new DR. WHO but I have gone off that as well now given that they just don't make the episodes that fun anymore though David Tennant is still droolworthy.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I suppose it would be salads, curries, anything really. My best dish? It depends. There's a wicked chickpea salad, dahl curry, fish curry, chilli con carne, paella, I do wicked pastas and sauces, roast chicken, grilled fish, bruschetta, butter cake ... if you turn up at my place, you will be fed.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Much like my politics, I have stopped rooting for teams, I try to support players now. Daniel Vettori, current New Zealand cricket captain is my fave since he has a pharmacology degree and wears glasses on the field. He is a Clark Kent, he conducts himself well unlike Ricky Ponting who heads the Australian team. Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Steve Waugh have all retired now.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

My Aus and SL passports. They are my main forms of ID and my only legal ID in SL. So I have brought the habit over here in Aus though my Clark Kent boyfriend worries that I might lose them if I keep carrying them around.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Talking to? Probably Lady Mirth aka Hasini because I found out she's an SL girl too. We actually met up in 2007. That being said TOC and Darth Michael always put a smile on my face and Mona was the first to ask me to cowrite.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I didn't have a clue. Honestly, I didn't. I often wished I knew so I could make the right decisions regarding degrees and so on. People said I'd be a writer. And voila! What am I doing now? I am a freelance editor and writer! Go figure.

11. What is something you collect?

Postcards. The free ones that are colourful and used to advertise something. They are free and they are going to be valuable someday as ephemera. Another thing I would love to collect is Wedgewood glass from the 1970s specifically by a particular designer. I have one paperweight piece of his - a little orange bird and I would love to have more but I fear they are all in the UK and out of my price range. I keep saying that the bird is my nest egg for any future kids' college fees. By that time it should surely be worth something though I'd hate to sell it for any reason.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? More hungry, less bored, more anxious that I need to go to the nearest train station now (it's almost midnight and that's where the nearest snack machine is) and get a bar of chocolate. also very sick with the 'flu.

Cheers,

The Little Tornado.

1. What does your board name mean?

In Portugal, nina is a short, affectionate term for "menina" (girl). I like it so I added the six (my lucky number) and voilá! Instant nickname! laugh

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in Coimbra, Portugal - the so called city of students since our University is one of the oldest in Europe. After some thinking I came to the weird conclusion that what I love the most about Coimbra are its two train stations - they allow me to make a quick escape to virtually anywhere in my (small) country.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

When it first aired in Portugal. I think it was 1994.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

1, 2, 4, 3

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Haven't watched that much tv lately. But I usually watch reruns of Charmed and The Daily Show when I happen to catch them while channel surfing. Does that count?

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I'm too lazy and very unskilled when it comes to cooking. The only thing I can fairly concoct is macaroni and cheese. Still, my family refuses to taste it - I wonder why?

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

My hometown soccer team: Académica, also known as Mancha Negra or Black Spot (their sports equipment is black)

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

Keys. I've learnt my lesson after locking myself out on at least two occasions while there was no one else in the house... If anything else it's boring waiting for hours until someone lets you in and it's also embarrassing when all your neighbours see you outside and ask you what happened.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Elisabeth. She was my BR for the only story I ever dared to submit to the mbs. I'm veeery shy and she kindly offered to help me. I don't think she knew what she was getting herself into though... I didn't have internet at home, so I had to use public spaces with the worst connections possible (constantly failing and painfully slow). Ergo, I only mailed her about once a week and never knew what to write to make my mails sound less boring. blush I'm very thankful to her for her patience and kindness and also very sorry for what I've put her through on that summer smile

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A writer, a journalist, an architecht, a policewoman, a black belt in karate, an x-men, sailor mars (from the anime sailormoon), a spy... and many other exciting things (must be why I'm *still* in college)

11. What is something you collect?

Postcards

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

I think so smile

Milkshakes.

Cincinatti Reds, Seattle Seahawks, and the Mariners, too, I suppose.
8. What is something you never leave the house without?
Cell Phone and Wallet.

My sister. But on the boards, I don't know. I remember talking the most with Sue, DJ, Lara, Mellie, etc.
10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don't really know if I had career dreams.
11. What is something you collect?

Okay, I hadn't been around for a long while, so maybe I should do this.

1. What does your board name mean?

Pretty self-explanatory, isn't it? :p There was already another Anna B. on the boards, with another nickname, but still - I didn't wanna steal her name. blush

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in a suburb of Athens, and I love the fact that it's part of a big city and all its comforts, and at the same time far enough from the center to be quiet and peaceful.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

When I was 14 - in 2002.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

1, 2, 3, 4.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

House M.D.!

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I don't really cook much laugh But I make excellent fried eggs!

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Olympiakos Peiraeus! And they don't suck. Ever. OKAY?

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

My watch. I don't ever take it off at all, actually, except when taking a bath.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Raquel aka. Quel Lane. She found me from a post of mine of IMDB.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A French teacher or a computer programmer, and a writer to boot. I went through many phases though, and ended up somewhere I hadn't even really imagined until then.

11. What is something you collect?

...Experiences! *is being deep* But I don't really collect anything else, so...

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

I wasn't bored to begin with, to be honest. laugh

See ya,

1. What does your board name mean?

When I was younger I had training in classical piano. I still love the piano and classical music. I also consider myself a classy and classical kind of lady. Also, I used to be very paranoid about posting my real name on the web, but I’ve since found out that if anyone truly wants to know who you are they can find out.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in northeastern Kentucky. And as Catherine said, “I live with my mommy.” I moved back in with my mom after my dad died because she was lonely and begged and had never ever been alone. She got married when she was barely 17 and mom and dad were married for 50 years. And since I wasn’t in a relationship I figured I might as well. I love her dearly, but it’s really “fun” sometimes, and I do mean that ironically. I love it here because I have lots of family here. But if I had my “druthers”, I’d be some place in the Rockies, traveling all the time, or at least somewhere where I could get a pizza delivered. smile Interesting tidbit: Although I live in Kentucky, I work in West Virginia and drive through Ohio to get there, and it only takes me an hour.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

I was ready and raring for the first episode and that’s when I started watching. I’d heard about the series long before it was advertised on TV because I was big into Superman comics then. I’ve been a Superman fan since I was four. I was a little peeved because they had chosen a brown eyed actor to play Superman, but Dean won me over in the first ep.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

Umm.... I guess I’d have to say 1, 2 or 4, 4 or 2, and 3. And I’m still mad because I can’t choose a 5, 6, 7, or 8...

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Survivor... and Smallville, which can cause quite a conundrum as they come on at the same time and I work 3-11 shift that day. One of my VCR’s is exceedingly complicated (And I’m pretty good with this kind of stuff.) to work so therefore I usually pick one show. If Lois is on Smallville I record that one. If not, then I record Survivor. But Smallville kind of went down hill for me with that whole “Lana absorbing the kryptonite so she can’t ever be with Clark again” thing. Clark is supposed to be with Lois, and that whole thing just puts Lois in second place. Eek.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I make a mean lasagna, a great guacamole dip, and tantalizing tostones. I learned to make the tostones in Puerto Rico.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Uhh... Sports? Uhh.... Is flying like Superman a sport?

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

Hopefully, my keys.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

Hmm... That’s hard to answer. I lurked for many, many years and after having read other folks’ answers, I realized that I lurked even longer than I thought I had. Ann (TOC) was the first person I talked to on this board. I was registered on the “old” board but never posted anything or talked to anyone. Otherwise, through email, it was either Nan Smith or Becky Bain - or maybe Anne Ciotola or Pam Jernigan. I’ve actually spoken to Lara Joelle Kent and bakasi, and I’ve met one FoLC but I didn’t know it until the last year or so when he posted his picture on the board. We worked together but never spoke as FoLC’s.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Superman (a female version); Batgirl; a doctor or a nurse; an army officer; a mom and housewife; an artist; a writer; a professional singer / star; a ballerina; a classical / professional pianist with clarinet, flute, guitar and singing on the side; and... and... I had “big” plans.

11. What is something you collect?

“We” collect “many” things. laugh (Sorry, I sometimes can resist the psych jokes.) I don’t think I collect much of anything now except maybe fancy notebooks and pens. In the past, I’ve collected comics, Superman stuff, Star Trek stuff, and baskets (especially Longaberger).

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Yes. The biggest entertainment was reading what everyone else said!

3. When did you start watching L&C?
The first two hour show that was remanufactured into the Pilot in 1993. I had just come back from a one year tour at the Pentagon and thought "Oh no, they're going to screw it up", but to my amazement I really loved Deborah Joy Levine's take on the Lois and Clark relationship
Are you saying that the Pilot wasn’t the first time the show aired? The first time I watched, though, it was two hours.

Aw, that’s just too cute. Too nervous to post feedback and yet you are a GE.

This is why the idiot writers in Hollywood made Smallville the size of Indianapolis.
This aggravates me, too. They show signs on the show showing the population, but the feel of the show isn’t that big except for there are an awful lot of people that went to Smallville High.

Well, we never had a toilet in the basement (but I have seen them) but when I was growing up, we had a shower in the basement. It made sense because my dad got filthy on the job. And the shower was “open” to the entire rest of the basement.

Please share the recipe.
1. Cut one medium-sized chicken breast fillet into chunks. (Sometimes I use turkey strips instead).

2. Cut one medium-sized onion into chunks.

2. Put chicken and onion chunks in a medium-sized pan with pepper to taste. (The recipe also mentions salt, but I find the stock has enough of that for me, so I don't add more).

3. Add two vegetable stock cubes in enough water to fill pan.

4. Bring to the boil.

5. When boiling, lower heat and simmer for twenty minutes.

6. Just before serving, cook a bag of noodles in the wok with a splash of olive oil (2 minutes) and add to pan.

That's it. Nothing fancy, very simple. Takes 20 minutes to cook and provides a tasty meal.

I sometimes also add in a can of sweetcorn.

LabRat smile (who notes that lunchtime has arrived and is now in the mood to cook... laugh )

A long time ago I decided the recipe for B'stilla was too long and complicated and started taking shortcuts. It cut down the time it took to make the pie, and cut out a lot of the work, and as far as I can tell, it tastes just the same. Anyhow, I finally wrote down my recipe when the women from my husband's office asked for it, so I'll just copy and paste it here.

B'stilla (Moroccan Chicken Pie)

This recipe is adapted from the traditional Moroccan dish, which involves a lot more work. I'll give their recipe and my own changes in parentheses. I think you'll agree that mine is a lot easier.

B'stilla (Pronounced "Pastilla")

Part 1

2 broilers or 1 large chicken, and giblets (I use 4 or 5 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, about 1/2 cup of chicken bouillon and a package of chicken livers)
2 1/2 T butter
1 lg onion, finely chopped
Salt and black pepper
1 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp powdered saffron (optional)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
4 T finely chopped fresh Italian parsley

(Feel free to adjust the amounts of the spices to suit yourself. They aren't set in stone.)

*******************

Part 2

7 -- 8 eggs
12 T butter, melted. (My method: Use butter-flavored spray instead. It's a lot easier and a lot lower in fat and calories)
16 sheets of fillo (or fila) pastry -- can be purchased in most supermarkets, in the freezer section.
1 to 2 T sugar
cinnamon to taste
2 packages of sliced or slivered almonds, sauteed in a little butter.
1 egg yolk, beaten to glaze
Granulated sugar, cinnamon and powdered sugar to garnish.

**********

Preparation of Part 1:

Original Method:

Wash the broilers or chicken. Quarter them and simmer with giblets in a very little water with butter, onion, seasonings and parsley for about 2 hours until meat falls off the bones. Add a little more water as required. When cooked, drain off stock and reserve. Skin and bone the chicken and cut the meat into smallish pieces.

(My Method:

Simmer chicken breasts, chicken livers and bouillon with butter, onion, seasonings and parsley for about 2 hours in covered pan until meat is tender. Add a little water as required. When cooked, drain off stock and reserve. Cut meat into small pieces.)

Preparation of Part 2:

Saute' the almonds in a little butter until lightly browned. Set aside.

Take about 1/2 cup of the stock and beat it well with the eggs. Season to taste with salt and pepper, pour into a small pan and stir over low heat until mixture is creamy and nearly set. (Don't worry if it looks like half-cooked scrambled eggs when you're done. It doesn't affect the result.) The eggs and the meat constitute the filling of the pie.

Original Method:

Brush a large pan or oven dish with melted butter. Fit a sheet of fillo in the dish so that the ends fold well up and overlap the edges. If this is not possible, use overlapping sheets of fillo. Lay 6 sheets of pastry on top of each other, brushing melted butter evenly between each layer.

(My Method: Use the butter flavored spray on the dish and between each layer of fillo pastry. It's much easier and lower in fat.)

Sprinkle the top layer with granulated sugar, cinnamon and sauteed almonds. Spread a little more than half the egg mixture evenly over this and sprinkle with a little of the remaining chicken stock.

Cover with 4 sheets of fillo pastry each brushed with butter (or sprayed with butter-flavored spray). These don't have to overlap the edges. I usually find that a sheet of fillo just covers the top of the pie.

Lay the pieces of meat neatly over the top, using all of the meat and seasoning mixture, and cover with the rest of the egg mixture. Sprinkle with a little more chicken stock. Cover with remaining fillo sheets, each brushed with butter, or sprayed with butter-flavored spray. Tuck the overlapping edges of fillo pastry over the top layers.

Paint the top with beaten egg yolk to glaze and bake at 350 to 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Then turn oven to 425 degrees for 15 minutes or until pastry is crisp and a deep golden color.

Sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon. Top with powdered sugar.

Hint: Don't be stingy with the toppings. They really enhance the flavor of the pie.

___________

So there it is. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out perfect the first time. It still tastes good, and I can guarantee you'll get better with practice.

1. What does your board name mean? – My name. Well, my first one anyway.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? – I live in Kentucky in the US. I like it because the weather’s pretty much in the middle. It can go to an extreme once in awhile, but it’s more moderate than not. Most of all though I like the rolling hills and the people.

3. When did you start watching L&C? – From the beginning. I’ve been a Superman fan since I was a toddler all most.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: - 2,1,3,4

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? – I’m going to say “Big Bang Theory”, but I’ll also admit to “Smallville” though the last half of season 8 was a huge let down.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality? – Breakfast. I don’t really cook, but I have the good fortune to supervise a department with it’s own building including a cafeteria so I get to come in in the mornings and make myself whatever breakfast I want.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? – University of Kentucky Wildcats!!!! (though I’m hoping their fortunes are about to change)

8. What is something you never leave the house without? – My phone. I’ve been on call almost continuously for the past 10 years. If I’m away from a phone or phone service I get twitchy because I just know that something’s going to blow up and I’ll be the last to find out.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? – Wendy was probably the first one I corresponded with (she was the editor of a story I wrote), but Tank and his comments to the original posting of that story here is the person that most stands out from the beginning. What can I say, I’m a big fan of both of them and I felt a little starstruck talking to them, lol.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? – Law enforcement. I almost made it to. I had just taken the civil service examination for the US Marshall service when I was offered my first job in mental health. I sometimes regret not sticking with it.

11. What is something you collect? – I used to collect comics. Now I don’t think I really collect anything though it’s very hard to pass by the $5 DVD bin at Wal-Mart and not snag something.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? – I was bored so much as panicked. I had just found out that there is a high probability that the Joint Commission will be here Monday to review our hospital and there was approximately 9 million things that still need to be done to prepare for them. I’m more or less using this to de-stress for the moment.

Hope it's not too late to join in. smile

1. What does your board name mean?

First name, last initial. Big surprise. smile

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

Home is in small town Indiana, but we're spending this year in Arlington, VA, while my husband is working in Washington DC for a year. We're moving back in about six weeks and while I will be happy to get back into my own house and see my friends again, there are many things we will miss about living in Washington.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

I was a fan from before the premiere. I was a Superman fan from childhood, so when I saw in TV Guide that summer that there was going to be a new show that focused on Lois & Clark and their relationship, I thought I'd die and gone to heaven. Then the show came out and it was even better than I'd dreamed it would be.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

Probably 2, 3 (minus the non-wedding arc), then a tie between 1 & 4. I don't dislike any season, but I absolutely love watching them (and writing them) when they're falling in love and trying to make it permanent.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

How I Met Your Mother (Barney/Robin, baby!)
Chuck
CSI
Doctor Who (though since my OTP somewhat rode off into the sunset, I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about it once it's Eleven and whatever-her-name-is-going-to-be.)

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I'm no gourmet chef, but I'm a fairly decent cook and have a wide variety of options at my disposal. smile

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

The University of Michigan Wolverines (though luckily, they rarely completely suck!)

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

My Blackberry. It's my phone, my watch, my PDA, and lets me read fanfic or surf the internet if I have to wait somewhere.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

OK, only the true old-timers out there will remember this name, but Dan Shawler. smile Although I'd been watching the show since the beginning, we first got internet in the fall of 1995, which was the beginning of the 3rd season. I quickly discovered fanfic and, soon after, read about this thing called IRC. I got on #loiscla (the original channel name) a few days before Contact aired, with no idea what to expect. "DanS" was there and patiently answered al my my questions about this new phenomenon called online fandom, including how to get on the email discussion and fanfic lists, when the channel got busy, etc. (Remember, this was back when 15 people -- all actively chatting, not lurking -- was a slow IRC night and episode nights could see 40, 50, or more.) When I said goodnight, probably two hours later, he told me that I was "a well behaved newbie" and they would be happy to have me come back to the channel. I swear, I felt like I'd been invited to sit at the popular kids' table in the lunchroom, LOL! I became a regular on IRC soon after and always tried to give newbies the same warm welcome Dan gave me. smile

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A teacher.

11. What is something you collect?

Uh ... unfinished WIPs on my hard drive? I was never the fastest fanfic writer out there, but I wish I could now write even half as fast as I did back then and have any hope of finishing all the ideas that I have started.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Reading all the responses has definitely been fun!

1. What does your board name mean?
Cookie is my dog, who I refer to as my "adopted black-haired child." She sits at my feet when I am on the computer and she is the only one of my children who actually listens to me. I was using that name on another site when I came across mention of these boards and had to find them.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place? near Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I love all the trees in this part of the country, and it's beautiful in the spring. I don't love the pollen or the summer heat.

3. When did you start watching L&C? Whenever it first came on. Watched up until the clone arc, then couldn't stand to continue.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference: 2, 1, 3, have never watched 4.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss? Chuck, Smallville, Burn Notice, Dr. Who and Torchwood reruns

6. What is your cooking (or burning) specialty? shrimp scampi, chicken and dumplings, coconut chicken, homemade pizza

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck? The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals (I'm originally from Missouri.)

8. What is something you never leave the house without? My clothes. I often forget everything else, including my shoes.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to? I've never talked to any in person. The first one I ever sent an email to, commenting on a story, was Sue S.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A scientist. Until I took chemistry and physics and neither interested me. I'm still interested in biology/ecology/nature, etc., but never went into these fields professionally. And I've started doing research on the chemistry of cooking.

11. What is something you collect? Books. They're my addiction. I read online fanfic partly to stop myself from going bankrupt buying them.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll? No change. I need more fanfic to read!

1. What does your board name mean?
A character from an obscure book I once read; the book was okay, but my 15 year old self really liked the name. And my favorite number. smile

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
Small town right by Lansing, Michigan. Well, I haven't spent a whole lot of time here, but I like that it's like the cliche 1950s suburbia come to life (only without the disturbing undercurrents--at least, not that I've seen!) Everyone friendly, and waves hi to everyone else, and gets involved in the community....totally different than Las Vegas, where we moved from!

3. When did you start watching L&C?
My freshman year of college--January 2006. Walmart was selling S1 for $20, and I had caught parts of episodes here and there, and liked them, so I figured "what the heck." I was hooked. smile

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
2, 4 (I'm a sucker for married L&C--I think they're so cute!), 1, 3

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
Castle!

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
Um...nothing really, although when I'm away at school I dazzle my roommates with my mom's easy and amazing pie crust. smile

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
I don't really follow sports...

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
book, wallet, lately my iPod shuffle to play on the car speakers

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
I don't think I've ever actually talked or even chatted online with a FOLC....just joined up recently and suddenly got busy, so I haven't been on here a lot.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Actress, then singer, then editor, then librarian, and now Archivist (I think that's the final one! *crosses fingers*)

11. What is something you collect?
Books! Um, souvenir programs and magnets from every musical/Broadway show I attend. smile

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

1. What does your board name mean?
Well, I picked the username when I picked out an e-mail address years ago. I can't remember when I started being Doranwen, it's become so much a part of me. Anyway, so I use it everywhere online that I possibly can. If you see a Doranwen, it's probably me (except at Gmail--don't ask me who stole my name there, lol). It's actually a supposedly Scottish word I stole from a fantasy book + a Welsh female name ending.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?
Well, my home is really in Washington state, and as EditorJax said, gotta love it 'cause it's got everything. Particularly for the mountains and green grass and trees, and the ocean . . . Can you tell I live on the west side? *g* I'm currently in Michigan, though, and I like it 'cause there's delicious fruit in the summers.

3. When did you start watching L&C?
I saw a little as a kid, and liked it somewhat, but forgot about it. Then when I got into file-sharing programs, I discovered someone had the pilot ep (a double-long ep, though their version was the US pilot and had a tornado warning blipping out some of Lois's confession in the hangar, which was annoying), and two more eps from S1. I think it was #2 and the one with the kids and the pig. So I watched those and really loved 'em. Then I discovered fanfic and dove into that. And thousands of fanfics later, I actually got to watching a few more eps, thanks to Annette and having my wisdom teeth pulled. Hurt too much to do anything, and at least I could concentrate on watching L&C and kinda enjoy it, despite the pain. I never have watched all the show though, got stuck somewhere around the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th season, and have gotten into other things since.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:
1, 2, 3, 4. I loved S1, S2 was a lot of fun too, S3 got all the wacky clone business, and I haven't even really seen S4 so I can't put it at the top--plus I don't like Lois's haircut, lol. So I'll put it last.

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?
There isn't one. I actually can't remember the last time I watched a television for television--or even watched one at all. I don't have a show I'm currently following--I discovered The Pretender a year or so ago and devoured it, and if they were making more I can guarantee you that's the one I'd follow. Besides, they never finished that show off properly anyhow, so it needs to be continued. Back when I watched Smallville (during seasons 2 and 3), I waited anxiously for each episode to make it to the file-sharing program I was able to use at my university so I could grab it and watch. But I quit that show somewhere in Season 4--I hated the way it was going. So there really isn't any show I'm anxious for right now.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?
I make a pretty good Pad Thai, baklava, and I'm getting good at Southeast Asian-style stir-frys. I'm not bad at soups from scratch either (potato soup is very easy). My mother is a very good cook and she wasn't about to let me escape home without learning a good deal.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?
I don't watch sports--at least not that sort of team sports. Figure skating is interesting enough, at least at the Olympics. So's gymnastics. Otherwise, sports isn't my thing at all.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?
Nowadays, that's my purse. It's got my ID, my credit card, my car keys, and important things like chapstick and pencil and paper. And I usually throw my cell phone in it too, so that goes.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?
Good question (and I'm not going to say my brother, because even though he IS a FoLC now, he wasn't when I became one!). I remember I read a lot of fanfic before getting on IRC or even discovering the boards, and I think ChiefPam was one of the first. Or whoever I dealt with to get on the boards. I remember asking Pam for a fanfic she had that got lost online. And I know I chatted with Wendy early on, 'cause hers were practically the first fics I ran across. Not sure exactly who, but someone in there.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An obstetrician. I saw my mom's medical books (she'd studied to be a nurse for a time) and I thought babies being born looked SOOOO cool. I wanted to do that too. Then I grew up and realized I hated blood and guts and all that, and decided that really wasn't my thing. And I discovered I loved teaching people things, so I was destined to be a teacher. That's my current focus.

11. What is something you collect?
Music, e-books, movies, fanfic, stuff I can find online that I'd like to read or watch or listen to later. I also collect educational materials, online or physical. I'm going to be a teacher, after all.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?
Maybe. I've got to get back to a research project though, and I'm not looking forward to that.

1. What does your board name mean?

Most stories end after the Big Decision; i.e. the couple is finally together, or whatever goal the characters were aiming for. But most of life happens afterwards, in the happily ever after. So, since I've got a wonderful husband and five terrific kids and I'm pretty much living the life I chose, then this *is* my happily ever after, right? Doesn't mean I'm always happy; right now my brother has uncurable cancer and the whole family is under a lot of strain, but I'm past the "Life will be better once X happens" stage and more in the "Long obdedience in the same direction" stage. Anyone over 35 will know what I mean by that.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in the South Bend, Indiana area. I grew up in the Washington, DC area, so I can very much relate to KathyB loving Indiana but missing DC. I love the small city size. It's close enough to Chicago if you really must have a big city experience now and then, but small enough that you can get your mind around it. And I love that hubby's job and lack of commute time allow him to be home much more than he was in DC. The whole area is very family friendly. I also love that Lake Michigan is only 45 minutes away; I'm a beach fan and the Lake is *almost* like an actual ocean.

3. When did you start watching L&C?

I remember seeing some of it when it first aired. But I really got into it a couple of years ago when an ad for Lois & Clark on AOL video showed up on my welcome screen. My young son and I wathced them together online, then I found the DVDs and ordered the whole set. We watched them in the car on a long road trip. I think Clark is a terrific role model for a young boy who's trying to figure out what it means to be a man and what it means for a man to love a woman.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

Three (I love watching Lois get to know the whole Clark), Early Four (newlyweds - gotta love'em), One, Two, Late four in far last place

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

There isn't one. I liked New Amsterdam and Life on Mars, but they seem to have died. Obviously I'm not the target audience for TV shows. Our family just did the Nielson rating survey this week, though. My 14 y.o. asked "Can I put down two shows if they air at the same time but I *would* watch them both if they were on at different times?"

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

My daughter does the cooking at our house. It's her way of not having to clean. It started like this: "Would you please sweep the floor?" "Do I have to?" "Well, I'm cooking dinner. Would you rather do that?" (rhetorical question, I thought) "Yes." "Oh. Okay."

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

Notre Dame football, because we have season tickets, and any team my 9 y.o. son is on, even though their baseball team won exactly one game this year. He made the all-star team, though, so now he's having fun.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

I can't top the "bra" answer.

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

CarolM, who kindly beta'd Foreshadowing, along with Amber and Ray, and who helped me learn to navigate the boards and the whole editing process.

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A doctor, and Marmee from Little Women. After watching my aunt go through med school with three kids, I realized I had to choose. I chose the big family. Not that my biology degree never comes in handy. It's useful for answering questions such as "Mommy, what is poop made of?" And I homeschool my elementary aged kids, so you could call me a teacher, too. (Actually, all parents are teachers.)

11. What is something you collect?

Kids. But I give most of them back when I'm finished with them. (I'm a foster parent, but I've also got five of my own.)

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

I wasn't bored; I was dead tired. Dont know why. I think it's just that it's Friday and a busy week has caught up with me. So now I've had a wonderfully lazy afternoon reading all the poll answers and being delightfully unproductive. Now it's off to a long hot bath before tonight's baseball game.

This *is* my happily ever after.

OK, only the true old-timers out there will remember this name, but Dan Shawler.
Ooohhh...I remember that name! Guess I've been around awhile! I actually met Dan and Leanne at Dan's apartment in San Diego - I was living in San Diego at the time. Well, now I suppose I have to respond too. smile

1. What does your board name mean?

It's a nickname my brother gave me when we were kids. I have no idea what it means. Neither does he!

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in Riverside, California, which is about an hour east of Los Angeles*. I love that I'm an hour from everything* - the beach, the mountains, the desert, Hollywood tv tapings, my family, Disneyland...you name it, I can pretty much do it at the drop of a hat.
(*driving at 2am in the carpool lane wink )

3. When did you start watching L&C?

Day 1. Okay, really, I taped the first episode because SeaQuest, DSV was airing its first episode at the same time and I thought it was going to be better. Wow, was that show lame! So an hour later, I watched the tape of the L&C pilot, then taped every episode of the series so I could have them forever. (This was well before the days that you could buy whole tv series on dvd or search for bootleg episodes online!)

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

2; 1; 3; every fanfic that put right what the series did wrong; ummm...was there another season?; the unaired 5th season; oh fine, I suppose there were some okay episodes in season 4

5. What is a show currently on the air you just can't miss?

Prison Break! Oh wait, that was cancelled. Pushing Daisies! Oh wait, that was cancelled. I could go on with examples from throughout the years (Wonderfalls, Profit)...I think actors should pay me NOT to watch their shows in order to guarantee their job security.

6. What is your cooking (or burning) speciality?

I burn water. If it's my turn to "cook" for myself and my son, we have a bowl of cereal for dinner. My husband can always be sure of my fidelity because I would die of starvation without him.

7. What sports team do you always root for, even when they suck?

San Diego Chargers...go Bolts! Maybe one day you'll leave me without bitter tears at the end of the season.

8. What is something you never leave the house without?

My contact lenses. I'd never make it to the door without them!

9. Who is the first FoLC you really remember talking to?

I was a lurker for a long time...I recognize so many names on the boards but never wrote to any of them. I remember going to one of the FoLCfests and driving some FoLCs to Magic Mountain to go on the Superman ride, including FlakyDom and Jackie. They criticized my erratic LA driving and the fact that I was passing cars on the right. laugh

10. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Nothing! My best friend knew since she was a kid that she wanted to be a doctor (hey, guess what, she's a doctor now!). I thought since I had no clue, that meant I was destined to die young, before I had to make a choice. I know...morbid, right? I swear, I'm not a serial killer!

11. What is something you collect?

I own almost every story Agatha Christie ever wrote. I collect the Hallmark Star Trek Christmas ornaments. My husband believes that I would buy Napoleon Bonaparte brand nuclear waste just because it had his name on it...I think I'd wait for a coupon.

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Most assuredly! One can only play Mafia Wars on Facebook for so long! wink

Oh dear...I thought almost the same thing and could easily write an epic novel on it. Uh, I kind of thought I was going to croak before I figured it out. blush

You're in good company.

Oh, and include regular books in that list, too.

I think, therefore, I get bananas.

When in doubt, think about time travel conundrums. You'll confuse yourself so you can forget what you were in doubt about.

LOL, I have a story about Faygo. One of roommates at the Univ of Michigan was from out of state and had never heard of Faygo. We were throwing a party, and I got the soft drinks ... picked up the usual Coke and Diet Coke, then grabbed a bottle of Redpop for the nostalgia factor. She was totally baffled when I told her what I'd bought.

"What the heck is that?"
"It's Redpop."
"I can see that, but what is it?"
"I told you, it's Redpop!"
"Yes, but what is it??" She finally studied the bottle and turned to me in amazement. "It really is called Redpop!"

Turns out she thought I was using some odd Michigan lingo that described soft drinks by their color. As if we called grape soda "purple pop" and Coke "brown pop." goofy

(Oh, and for the record, that's how I learned that Redpop was, in fact, strawberry soda, LOL.)

My mom's family lives in Michigan, so we would go back to visit every few years when I was a kid. That's how my brother and I were introduced to Faygo. A couple of months ago, my brother was in a BevMo and saw they had some, screamed like a little girl, and bought them. He snuck into my house and put a Rock and Rye and a Redpop in my refrigerator. When I got home and opened the fridge, I saw them, but didn't really register them, as if it wasn't unusual that they were there. A month later, my brother called me and asked if I ever got his present. I thought for a second, then yelled, "Oh my god! Faygo Redpop!" I downed it in about a minute. smile YUM! thumbsup

My nic is Roo since II was a kid. I'm not the biggest fan of Ruth. Well, Super b/c Superman.

2. Where do you live, and what is something you love about that place?

I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I like our urban forest and parks. If this city didn't have them, I don't know what I'd do. I also love the fact I only have to drive less than 10 minutes to get out of the city and enjoy the flat prarie scape.

4. Rank the seasons in order of preference:

1, 2, 3, 4.

I'm not sure. I get addicted to making one thing for a while and then never make it again for months or years. For a while I was always making pita pizzas of various types. Now I seem to have a tendency to collect yarn (knitting) and beads. I say collect b/c I never actually follow through with the project frown

12. Are you less bored than when you started this poll?

Yes. Though, I'm a bit tired now.

I've converted to lurk-ism... hopefully only temporary.
