I was inspired by Coolgirl's romance novel thread as well as seeing the read 50 books one. I do seem to remember that a while back, Editor Jax, said she was going to create a favorite movie type survey so, Jen, I hope it's okay with you that I did. smile Anyway for the new year, a new survey lol. I tried to add a few "different questions."

Top 10 (give or take a few as I know it can be hard to narrow it down smile

1. Movies

2. Books

3. TV shows (past or present)

4. Moments/Scenes from any/mixture of the above

5. Moments/Scenes you wish had been written/acted out differently. (Eg. No amnesia kiss in Superman 2)

6. For the Deandreamer in all of us, devil , but not limited to, scenes/moments that you wish YOU had been apart of. (I think this might be a different question)?

7. Songs

8. Places you'd like to visit (real or imaginary-why not)?

9. Since we are folcs, there ought to be one completely L and C, question, so how about, and hey this might inspire writers out there, too, 10 or so things you wish we could have seen in the show or seen more of.

10. Folc's Choice. Pick something.

Answer away if you so desire and enjoy! I promise to answer myself in the morning.

-More romance in the last few episodes of the last season come on they were newlyweds you'd think they wouldn't be able to keep their hands off each other
-Lois making Clark squirm even more after they broke up hey he deserved it and even though I liked the outsome I would've preferred to have seen them actually talk through their fears

I'll throw in my top ten tv shows while I"m burning some disks. Burning the midnight oil and all that jazz!

In no particular order:
Frasier
Everybody Loves Raymond
Friends
King of Queens
Wings
Grey's Anatomy
The Nanny
NCIS
How I Met Your Mother

Actually I can't think of a 10th show that I'll watch over and over again! But unsurprisingly comedy is at the forefront of my viewing. :p

Ooh! Two fellow GWTW fans. The best book ever written! Yes, I am a sap.

I've sort of given up on LnC lately ( eek ) in favour of reading GWTW fanfics instead.

(I'm also still trying to wade through RB's People, which I've had for 2 months now and am still only half way through. I'm not not enjoying it, I just keep finding better things to read. blush )

Back to the original thread, I may attempt to answer this later, although I can guarantee there won't be 10 of everything. I generally find 'favourite things' Q's very difficult to answer.

Books:
Gone with the Wind
Scarlett
The Shadow of the Wind
The Crimson Petal and the White
The Historian (except the ending was a bit feeble)
Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series
John 'O Farrell's books are fun
um...can't think. Ok, I don't read that many books...

Movies: was mulling this over in the shower just now, and I came up with
Speed
Zoolander
Far and Away - not any more, but I saw that 6x at the movies when it was released blush
Fight Club
About a Boy
um... again...

TV Shows: this I'm basing solely on who I had the hots for at the time
Family Ties - Mona, were you also in love with MJF/APK when you were 12?
Booker - Jump Street spin off (I thought Richard Grieco was drool )
Highlander
LnC - Dean Cain drool
Buffy - David Boreanaz drool , til Angel left, then
Angel
Friends
Due South - Canadian mountie nonsense

Currently, I suppose I enjoy Heroes, Desp Housewives, Bones.

Moments/Scenes from above:
VD bedroom scene.
Tempus telling Lois the secret
Clark asking her to marry him. That was sooo cruel, making us wait to find out the answer.
Darla walking into the Hyperion pregnant;
Wesley smashing the memory box thingy and remembering all the horrors that were his miserable life.(Angel)
Duncan MacLeod dying in front of Dr Anne, then revealing himself to her later.

...this sort of thing is on a par with cross-overs for me. If no-one else knows what you're talking about, what's the point? So I'll stop. goofy

Songs:
Too many to mention, but generally speaking I am partial to the power ballad. (apparently I don't think I've embarrassed myself enough) blush

Places I'd like to visit:
Home
France
Italy
China
Egypt
USA
South America

Folc's choice:
chocolate?

Friends
Life on Mars
Dead Like Me

What Not To Wear (US) *blushes*
Grey's Anatomy

House

4. Moments/Scenes from any/mixture of the above

- The gazebo scene in The Sound of Music, after the Baroness leaves.
- Always loved that first kiss in Victor/Victoria, after King and Victoria run away from the fuss at the club.
- And that first kiss in Roman Holiday. Sensing a theme, again? <g>
- In Jane Eyre, I love the part where Jane and Rochester call to each other in the night, and even though they're so far away from each other, they hear each other's voices on the wind.
- There are too many awesome scenes in The Princess Bride, but I always loved the part where Westley wakes up and is told he'd been "mostly dead all day." <g> And, of course, the part where Buttercup pushes the "Dread Pirate Roberts" down the hill, and then realises it's Westley.
- In the Firefly episode "Trash", at the beginning: "I shaved my beard for you, Devil Woman!" <g>

Julie smile

Mulder: Imagine if you could come back and take out five people who had caused you to suffer. Who would they be?
Scully: I only get five?
Mulder: I remembered your birthday this year, didn't I, Scully?

I'm not great at making these types of lists because my picks keep changing all the time, but in terms of books I'll just throw out a few of my favs:

The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
Against All Enemies - Richard Clarke
The Trial - Franz Kafka
It's Superman - Tom deHaven
The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger

Quote
The gazebo scene in The Sound of Music, after the Baroness leaves.
I just rewatched SoM the other day and this scene always makes me giggle. The Captain leans down to kiss her and she erupts into song. I'd've been pissed if I'd been him laugh .

Top 10 (give or take a few as I know it can be hard to narrow it down

I agree with Coolgirl in anything warm romantic and normally not tragic and I'll add in always not violent.

Cider House Rules
Dirty Dancing
Superman 2
Goonies
Bed of Roses
Titanic (I admit I saw this MANY times)
Beaches
The Rainmaker
Vital Signs
Grease 2
Radio Flyer (I know this defies what I said above but as someone who is an advocate for kids this movie was incredible). mecry
many others

Books I love books!

To Kill a Mockingbird
How Green Was My Valley
Comfort and Joy
James Herriot Books
Hometown Heartbreakers
Lakeshore Chronicles
When Light Breaks
Silver Bells and other Luanne Rice books
Nobody Don't Love Nobody
Ordinary Ressurections (Jonathan Kozol-it's an education book)

TV shows (past or present)

Without question, L n C :p

Strong Medicine
Any Day Now
7th Heaven
Family Ties
Life Goes On
Higher Ground
Sometimes it's fun to watch House Hunters to see different families and neighborhoods.
Dodgers, lol. I really am not a tv watcher.

Moments/Scenes from any/mixture of the above

When Lois and Clark were FINALLY married
L n C romance
The near end of BRAC1 in Strong Medicine

Moments/Scenes you wish had been written/acted out differently.

Axe the entire Clone arc and the wedding destroyer if she wasn't part of that!

I wish we had gotten to see L n C grow as a married couple and possibly with children. M and J with grandkids.

Yes, much more romance and less stupid and otherwise interruptions.

Let's see, from the crossover thread, I always wished the Bobbsey Twins had been allowed to age! In Little Women of course Beth's dying and moreso Jo should have ended up with Laurie!

[/] For the Deandreamer in all of us, , but not limited to, scenes/moments that you wish YOU had been apart of. [/b]

I certainly would not have * minded * being a Terri extra! ;)Same with Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing. Fantasy worlds Eternia (He-Man)and heck it might be fun to jump into a chalk drawing in Mary Poppins.

Songs

My favorite group is still older REM (Pre-Monster)

Hands and Life Uncommon by Jewel
Circle Game and Clouds by Jodi Mitchell
All I want is You and other older U2
Fall in Love With Me and I Believe Booth and Bad Angel
Flying Without Wings
Still the One

Places you'd like to visit

Metropolis
Smallville
Eternia
Washington Rainforest
Canada
Columbia River Gorge in Oregon
Disney World
New England
Thirsk (James Herriot)

9.Since we are folcs, there ought to be one completely L and C, question, so how about, and hey this might inspire writers out there, too, 10 or so things you wish we could have seen in the show or seen more of. Besides less interruptions and ridiculous plot lines such as ressurections of gangsters and Luthor, time travels etc, I most would have loved to have seen more of Clark growing up and of course him and Lois married.

10. Folc's Choice. Computer games such as Scrabble and Q-Bert and reading L and C fan especially n fic. devil Okay, okay, like Crazy Babe, though I am not talented like she is, I'd like to learn more about photography and I hope to make it through pre-med and then medical school.

Gosh this was harder than I thought it'd be when I made it up! I have enjoyed reading your answers though everyone. smile

Okay, I really should continue writing my paper on Irish politics, but I really cannot be bothered at the moment, and since I found the answers thus far interesting, this thread seems like a great distractive exercise.

I will mainly focus on romantic stuff because "Roman Holiday" is on and I just feel like it.

1. Movies

- Bridget Jones I+II (gotta love Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver fighting)
- The Truth about Cats and Dogs (so sweet, so funny, I wish I were Janeane Garafalo)
- Before Sunset + Before Sunrise
- Pillow Talk (Rock Hudson will always have a place in my heart)
- 50 First Dates (I never would have thought Adam Sandler would make such a great romantic lead, but it's really very sweet)
- Adam's Rib (I always love Spencer Tracy - and I love how strong a character Katherine Hepburn is in this, too)
- Two Weeks Notice (I love Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock)
- Garden State (funny, touching and the music is great)
- How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
- The Dinner Game (this French comedy is not very romantic, but fabulously funny, check it out at Amazon )
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (I love it and cry every time, makes you realize how intimately intertwined love and pain are)
- Station Agent (beautiful film about not fitting in, about friendship and isolation - and also very funny smile )
- It's a Wonderful Life (I just love that the message is not about following your dreams, but about how our lives are touched by people who accept responsibility)
- To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar (never thought Patrick Swayze could be so funny and also touching)

2. Books
- Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella (what would you do if you thought your plane was about to crash and you told the person next to you your deepest secret, but then you don't die and he turns out to be your boss? Hilarious.)
- A Girl's Best Friend by Liz Young
- Asking for Trouble by Liz Young (having an imaginary boyfriend is one thing, but having to hire an escort so your mom won't find out at a family wedding, that's where things get complicated. A riot.)
- The Discovery of Heaven by Harry Mulisch (beautiful)
- Surfacing by Margaret Atwood (very touching)
no, I really don't want to get into the non-entertainment books today, so I'll stop right here

3. TV shows (past or present)
- Wonderfalls (Jaye is a misanthropic underachiever until inanimate objects start talking to her - quirky, fun and romantic, if you liked Dead Like Me or Pushing Daisies, do check it out)
- Peep Show (unmasks a lot of anxieties and hypocrisies and because of that is great fun)
- Moonlighting (one of the most creative and funny shows ever)
- Anything but Love (Jamie Lee Curtis and Richard Lewis work surprisingly well, this was the first romantic comedy sitcom I watched)
- Black Books (this British comedy about a book store owner who hates customers but loves alcohol is really great fun)
- Men in Trees (I always love a great supporting cast, the nature in Alaska is just splendid to look at, there is great comedy and sizzling chemistry between the leads - I am really very fond of this show)
- Spaced (this British comedy has more film references than any other show I know and is simply hilarious)
- MASH (the best comedy ever made, so funny and so touching, I love the characters and it seems to never grow old)

I also like How I Met Your Mother, Blackadder, Coupling, Northern Exposure (actually love it) and many more I probably forgot.

4. Moments/Scenes from any/mixture of the above
- LnC: all the sports metaphor talk in Lucky Leon was hilarious
- LnC: the shoo-wob shoo-wob scene (I always call it that because of the Flamingo's song "I only have eyes for you" in the background) in The Phoenix, where the are on stakeout and look at each other undressing through the tainted glass
- LnC: every scene where Clark's shirt is off goofy
- Wonderfalls: Jaye's and Eric's first kiss
- Wonderfalls: the very last scene of the show with Travis's "love will come through" as background music, I cry a little every time
- Northern Exposure: the flying cow
- Northern Exposure: Ed talking to the ghost of One Who Waits
- Anything but Love: Marty trying to show Hannah what a great kisser he is right after his dentist's appointment when his mouth is still numb
- Moonlighting: the whole Atomic Shakespeare episode
- Moonlighting: every time Maddy and David refer to the fact that they are just characters in a television show
- Coupling: the four-way-phone-conversation that wouldn't end (Patrick: "You want a baby?", Sally: "No, I didn't mean it like that, you first have to get a cat, see if you're maternal." Patrick: "You already have a cat!" Sally: "Well, I'll have to shave it, see if I still like it.")
- Coupling: all weird Jeff moments, references to Patrick's Cupboard of Love
- MASH: Colonel Potter mourning his old friends
- MASH: Charles Emerson Winchester III bonding with the Korean musicians, that was so sad and sweet
- Men in Trees: Marin and Jack getting it on to "Overdue" by Bitter:Sweet (the song is perfect and James Tupper has the most sexy, masculine voice)
- Men in Trees: the cook-off between Marin and Cash over who makes the meanest stew
- Men in Trees: Jack having to make "otter porn" in the wild in the hope that the footage will help zoo otters mate
- Black Books: Bernhard and Manny trying to "re-create" the fine old wine they drank with household items in "Grapes of Wrath"

5. Moments/Scenes you wish had been written/acted out differently. (Eg. No amnesia kiss in Superman 2)

- no Wedding Argh in LnC
- would have prolonged the first courtship of Marin and Jack in Men in Trees, thus sparing them the on-and-off game
- more Martha, Jonathan and Perry in LnC
- LnC: a little make-out session during the stakeout in The Phoenix
- LnC: different actor as Scardino, to make him less annoying
- LnC: no New Krypton
- LnC: no Soul Mates (of course they *are* soul mates, but this "curse" was just too much for me)
- more Aaron/Mahandra-romance in Wonderfalls
- much less John Ritter in Anything But Love
- no Marc Harmon in Moonlighting and no darn breakup!
- LnC: no Cat
- LnC: would have kept Michael Landes as Jimmy
- LnC: I would *so* have kept Deborah Joy Levine on the show

funny how there are so many things in LnC I would change, I guess it's true: flaws make you lovable wink

6. For the Deandreamer in all of us, devil , but not limited to, scenes/moments that you wish YOU had been apart of. (I think this might be a different question)?

well, Clark is meant to be with Lois, not with me - so I'm content to just watch all those fabulously steamy scenes smile

7. Songs

- Somewhere Only We Know - Keane
- Love Will Come Through - Travis
- Burning the Daze - Marc Cohn
- Best of My Love - the Emotions
- Caramel - Suzanne Vega
- It looks like love - Josh Rouse
- Heartbeat - José Gonzáles
- New Slang - The Shins
- Let Go - Frou Frou
- Quelqu'un M'a Dit - Carla Bruni
- Wess nid was es isch - Stephan Eicher
- Short Skirt, Long Jacket - Cake
- Mooie Blouse - Kaspar van Kooten
- Piano Man - Billy Joel
- Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime - Beck
- Old Love - Eric Clapton; actually, the LnC scene with that song started my Eric Clapton obsession in the mid-90s; but I'm much better now smile
- Closer to You - Jackie Greene
- Woman Trouble - Artful Dodger
- Times Like These - Jack Johnson
- Play Deaed - Björk

I really have to stop now ...

8. Places you'd like to visit (real or imaginary-why not)?

- Alaska
- Great Canyon
- some of the great American national parks
- more of Asia (only went to Japan, which I would love to visit again, not China because of poltical situation)
- Canada!
- Israel
- Sweden, Norway, Denmark
- more of France
- South Africa
- Metropolis
- Hogwarts (I'm not a great big fan, but that would surely be a fun vacation wink )
- islands, cold and warm, far and close

9. Since we are folcs, there ought to be one completely L and C, question, so how about, and hey this might inspire writers out there, too, 10 or so things you wish we could have seen in the show or seen more of.

already answered that in 5, I think.

Generally speaking: more romance, more banter, less Kryptonians and annoying federal agents, definitely more of mischievous Clark (I don't like that they pretty much smoothed all his edges, I loved how he send Lois to the sewer in season 1 for example and always liked him teasing her)

10. Folc's Choice. Pick something.

favourite quotes:

"Honey, there'll always be another headless corpse. Love comes maybe once." (Perry White)

"These souvenirs aren't working: they're supposed to remind me of a place I'm not, but I'm still here." (Eric Gotts in Wonderfalls)

wow, now that's what I call exhaustive ...

But now it just has to be said: that's all, FoLCs.

Oooh I'm home again and it's always fun to fill out lists...

1. Movies (in no particular order since this is a cracked out list)
Quills
Sixteen Candles
Heathers
Bridget Jones' Diary (the first one)
Star Wars Trilogy
Maria Full of Grace
All About my Mother
Bad Boys 2 (everyone has to have a guilty pleasure movie)
Man on Fire
Zoolander (oh Mugatu how I love you...)

2.Books

Veronica Decides to Die- Paolo Coelho
Phantom- Susan Kay
Narcissus and Goldmund- Herman Hesse
The Key-Junichiro Tanizaki
Kitchen- Banana Yoshimoto
The Road-Cormac McCarthy
The Bell Jar-Sylvia Plath
A Hundred Years of Solitude-Gabriel Garcia Marques
As I Lay Dying-William Faulkner
Stories of Love, Madness and Death-Horacio Quiroga

3.TV Shows (excluding the obvious)
Frasier
Scrubs (I think this season in their worst tho)
X-files
House

4.Awesome scenes from above
-Any time Frasier's psycho agent Bebe appears it promises hilarity (the Faust montage particularly had me wheezing and my stomach muscles hurting)

-JD and Turk doing the love between two guys song in the musical episode

-In Quills when the Abbe sees that Madeleine is to be whipped and offers himself in her place...when he sees her reflection when she's changing...so many good scenes...

-The lightsaber fights in Empire and Jedi especially the revelation.

-Clark's will cracking in Pheromone...proposal in ATAI...the steamy scene in VD..

-The fight scene in Bridget Jones (how can any girl NOT love that scene, especially when they stop when the cake comes out and join in singing Happy Birthday?)

-In All About My Mother when Agrado makes her speech. Simply beautiful--one of my fave quotes is from that movie and that character: "You are more authentic the more you resemble what you have dreamed of being."

I could go on, but it would make this longer than it already is!

5. Scenes I wish would have been different

-The ending of Quills. I understand it, but wow how bitter. I still love it anyway though.

-It's not a scene in LnC, but I do wish we hadn't jumped into the proposal.

6.Songs

Tainted Love-Soft Cell
John the Revelator-Depeche Mode
Somebody Told me-The Killers
Le Disco-Shiny Toy Guns
My Moon My Man-Feist
Liquid Diamonds-Tori Amos
Monkey Gone to Heaven-Pixies
The Sea-Morcheeba
Trigger Hippie-Morcheeba
Glorybox-Portishead

7. Places to visit
Germany
Russia
Bora bora
China
India

8. More things to see in LnC
More serious drama with a solid A-plot and character consistency. Less censoring. Less "wacky" one-dimensional villains.
That's pretty much it.

9.Folc's choice
Vanilla coke! smile

alcyone

Before the list starts, I go for things that give me the sense of someone coming and enveloping me in a big white hug and comforting me, saying everything will be all right. Don't know why but all these movies/books/shows give me that feeling. You will notice that the Superman movies are absent - great respect for the actors but I wanted to haul the writers and directors off and shoot them - what were they thinking? L&C came the closest to what I think the relationship and the situation was like and even that got mucked up pretty fast. Season 1 your reign should have never ended - we should have been still watching you on TV like MASH. And maybe this sounds weird but I always thought The Muppet Show was childish, adult, fun and intelligent at the same time. I miss intelligent programming.

I miss the time when it wouldn't have been weird for me to say I like intelligence in anything.

1. Movies

Hatari
The Beatles Help!
Cabaret
Amelie (French movie)
Nightmare Before Christmas
Batman II (with Michelle's Catwoman, Tim Burton, I love you!)
Batman The Movie (1960s)
Tokyo Godfathers (Japanese)
Ten Canoes (Australian Aboriginal - hilarious)

2. Books

Lewis Carroll:
Alice In Wonderland
Alice Through The Looking Glass
Sylvie And Bruno
Sylvie & Bruno Concluded

T.S. Eliot:
Possum's Book of Practical Cats

A.A. Milne's Winnie The Pooh series (4 in all)

Anais Nin:
Artists and Models (erotic literature in the 1940s)

The Portable Dorothy Parker

3. TV shows (past or present)

L&C
The Muppet Show
Wonder Woman
Batman 60's with Adam West
Fruits Basket (Japanese anime)
Allo Allo
Dad's Army
Time Team
Inuyasha (Japanese anime)
Rurouni Kenshin (Japanese anime)
MASH (honorary mention because it was intelligent and yet it survived American TV industry and ratings - I want more intelligent shows on TV now and I don't get them and that makes me angry)
Monty Python (honorary mention - thanks for just being a show and so british and so witty, you beat all other comedy shows hands down)

4. Moments/Scenes from any/mixture of the above

Sam The Eagle's ironically muffed speeches from The Muppet Show - subtle but not so subtle sarcasm at the politics of the day.

Kermit in a trenchcoat. (Now, now Kermit, between you and CK you have entrenched this damn fetish for outerwear far enough!)

Miss Piggy swooning over Christoper Reeves with thousands pictures of Superman all over her dressing room.
Miss Piggy: "Oh, Christopher, you big beautiful brute!" *swoons*
Kermit (sticking his head around the door, thoroughly upset): "She never called me a beautiful brute!"

Kermit you are such a player.

"I guess this is goodbye." Sally to Brian, Cabaret. "Tomorrow belongs to me." sung by the Nazi Youth Group in Cabaret. It reminds me of what it must have been like to go into that war, to stay behind, to die like dogs in Berlin, to live that life, having to sleep with strangers for enough money for the rent, for bread, for cigarettes and for the alcohol to numb the pain.

5. Moments/Scenes you wish had been written/acted out differently. (Eg. No amnesia kiss in Superman 2)

Something could have happened in the Phoenix epsiode.

They should have taken longer, much longer and drawn out the getting to be friends then lovers bit.

More witty banter.

More stolen kisses.

More daydream sequences on both sides.

6. For the Deandreamer in all of us, [Devil] , but not limited to, scenes/moments that you wish YOU had been apart of. (I think this might be a different question)?

I have always wanted to be dancing and singing with the muppets ...

.... or on stage in Cabaret doing a drag act (yes you read that right - I have always wanted to come out as a man in full tuxedo and freak the audience out by stripping down into figure hugging dress and heels)...

... or as much as I loved Eleanor Bron, taking her place in Help ...

... or dying in World War I or II - far as I am concerned, I might have been better off. Probably would have been run through with a bayonet. To live through it and survive would have been awful, to live after it happened and see the world now is worse because people went to war everywhere (and still do) hoping to have a better world and I feel like I should be apologising to the war dead on everyone else's behalf that we are still mucking it up.

7. Songs

Take Five - Dave Brubeck Quartet
My Baby Just Cares For Me/Love Me Or Leave Me/Mississippi Goddamn by Nina Simone
Old Folks At Home (Way Down On The Swanee River) by Stephen Foster (this is the song Elsa plays on the piano in Hatari and I only found out what it was thanks to the Muppets)
Love Thy Will Be Done by Martika (this song haunts me)
Nothing Compares To You by Sinead O'Connor
Blackbird by Beatles/Paul McCartney
Comedy Waltz/ Allelujah by Fairground Attraction (Eddi Reader has an awesome voice)

8. Places you'd like to visit (real or imaginary-why not)?

Bundala National Park, Sri Lanka
My boyfriend's arms (though he isn't cooperating at the moment by waltzing off to the countryside while I am here in the city)
1920s-40s Paris
Dardenelles during the war
Anywhere where I can just walk and just slowly fade away and disappear into the background of the place around me. I have always wanted to be able to walk into the Indian Ocean on one of it's calmer days and just slowly keep walking till I disappear completely.
With Brian.
In my SIMs 2 game.

9. Since we are folcs, there ought to be one completely L and C, question, so how about, and hey this might inspire writers out there, too, 10 or so things you wish we could have seen in the show or seen more of.

I think I answered this question already?

10. Folc's Choice. Pick something.

My names starts with an 'M' but I love the letter C because it stands for:

Chocolate
Coke
Cats
Cuddles
Crab Curry
Colombo
Computers
Clark Kent boys
Choices
Children
Chastity
Carnality & ...

... Cheers,

The Little Tornado
