And how do you get em? I never gave much thought to this when I joined, and shrugged it off. But then I seem to have changed from cub reporter to Kerth. Did I do that, did the system do that or did somebody make me one? What IS it, anyway? Alright, so I've been here for awhile! I'm just here for the stories. =)

Those are titles based on the number of posts you have made. You start out as a cub reporter. With 50 posts, you become Merriwether, 100 is Kerth and 300 Pulitzer. More detailed information can be found here. Saskia

I did not know that either about the member statuses. I'm glad you asked about this. I would not have thought to ask about the different levels of the statuses.

Luckily I had my sister to ask, but also I was a member of a message board somewhere else and learned of the (fairly common) practice of statuses based on number of posts.
Is 1000 Editor-in-chief, or is there no 100 level and the Editor-in-chiefs have that status because of their function?
I think, therefore, I get bananas.

Yes, function. Editors-in-Chief are Admins. Moderators are Section Chiefs. LabRat

Can you make a 1000 level or do you just not consider it worth it (besides lacking a name for that level)?

Not sure, Woody. I'd have to email Annette to see if there were technical issues - which I can't imagine there would be. Any ideas for a status title? LabRat

I don't know, something to do with a "Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalists" (that's not the name, just the theme).

Good ideas, Karen. I think we'll put this one on hold though until Annette can get the php problems on the mbs sorted. What with having flu and dealing with that, I figure she's got enough to handle. Woody, once the dust has settled on that, why don't you send the admins a suggestion form on this one, including Karen's title suggestions? (Just click on the 'contact us' button at the bottom of the forum) And we'll take it from there? LabRat

Actually, it's very simple - something any of the admins can do. Annnnd... with a wave of her magic wand, it is done Pulitzer now requires 2000 posts, and there are nine levels altogether. These titles don't have to be permanent; I just put them in to see how it would all work. So comments welcome! Wendy

Section Editor and Editor-in-Chief are titles reserved for the Moderators and Admins of the mbs, respectively. As such, no matter how many posts you make, you won't be assigned either. The others are up for grabs though: 0 Cub Reporter 50 Dog Show Reporter 100 Beat Reporter 300 Gossip Columnist 500 Feature Writer 750 Front-Page Journalist 1000 Merriwether 1500 Kerth 2000 Pulitzer LabRat

Aw, darn. I'm back down to Merriwether.
Ah well. At least that means I'm less than half-way back to my previous Pulitzer. Should only take me another year or so, considering how fast I got the first 1,000+ posts.

Thanks for typing the titles and post thresholds out for everyone, LabRat! We're very, very open to correction by anyone who knows better - or, also, to suggestions for better titles. It's the work of seconds to change titles, so it's no problem at all if consensus is that people want something different. Wendy

Thanks for typing the titles and post thresholds out for everyone, LabRat! Well, I didn't so much type them out as just cut and paste them from the FAQ. Only took two seconds, so don't imagine I was gallantly slaving away for hours. LabRat

Only took two seconds, so don't imagine I was gallantly slaving away for hours. Oh, but I had this mental picture of a poor little lab rat typing away on an eensy-weensy custom-made keyboard. Occasionally you'd pause and tip your head up in that cute way that rodents have, your little pink nose twitching with excitement as the right increments of posts for each level occured to you. And then, when it was finally done and you'd managed to jump on the computer's mouse to click "save" (as opposed to that mouse in the next cage who's been giving you the eye for some time now), you took a few laps in your wheel to celebrate a job well done. Have a sunflower seed on me for all your hard (or not so hard) work. Sue (working on that post count...)

Gossip columnist? I'm a gossip columnist?! That's... Well... So very, very unlikely! I don't smooze. I don't party with celebs. My camera doesn't have a very long papparazzi lens. And I don't have a subscription to 'Hello' or 'Heat' or any of those other grim celebrity magazines that turn up from time to time in the hairdressers where, on the rare occasions that I have picked the magazines up, I have failed to recognise 95% of the people they talk about and the gossip has been as out of date as an analogue mobile phone. (Now, when I go to the hairdressers, I take a good novel with me.) I'd better get busy and work towards the next level. At least I could live with being a Feature Writer! Chris

I used to hang out in a SG1 forum where posts from newbies didn't count towards their status. They had to post a certain number - 50 or so, before they got credit. I guess it was to stop people wasting posts, but I always thought it was kind of unfair discrimination myself. LabRat

I'm a "Dog Show Reporter"!!! *throws a Lois Lane hissy fit* I don't do dog shows! Maybe I would if LabRat were a contestant... Imagine LabRat standing up on hind legs, paws frantically hitting the keyboard of a computer. Everyone looks on in awe as those large paws manage somehow to hit the keys... one at a time. The crowd goes wild...

I think there ought to be a "blogger" level in there somewhere... might be more enjoyable than reporting on dog shows! If only I had the power to change it myself... oh, wait... I do... Okay, new levels: 0 Blogger 50 Freelance Reporter 100 Beat Reporter 300 Columnist 500 Features Writer 750 Front-Page Journalist 1000 Merriwether 1500 Kerth 2500 Pulitzer Seemed a bit more logical (and dignified!) to me... PJ p.s., I didn't set the Pulitzer level at 2500 posts, someone else did. Do we want to bring it back down to 2000?

Hey guys Just a friendly reminder that the size limit for avatars on these boards is 100x100 pixels, as explained in the Picture Posting FAQ : Avatars, the small pictures that show under a user's name, are different and are limited in size. They should not be any wider than 100 pixels and no taller than 100 pixels. We've noticed a couple of people's avatars in this thread are larger than that. If you don't know how to resize your avatar, write to the admins by clicking on the link on the front page to contact us, and we'll help you. Oh, and if you're not sure how to see what size your avatar is, right-click on the picture and select properties. We really should add this to the general boards FAQ, I suppose... Probably should have looked at the statuses before and said so a couple days before now... but going to say it anyway ('cause, you know, I wouldn't mind getting *at least* my Kerth back!) *lol* I'm looking at the list and - up to the awards, which are logical anyway - the others are actual positions that someone might have on their business card (*lol*). Except one. Front-Page Journalist. AFAIK, any reporter can get a front page article if the news is big enough... Wouldn't the next logical step be Senior Reporter - that's something you're likely to get promoted to. IMHO... even though no one asked.

How about these titles:
Intern Gopher Copy Boy Editor in Chief (or Chief) The King Suit Up There (because it's always the suits up there who make life hard for our favourite reporters) Low Man (since we already have Top Banana)

I love the fact that we have such a wide range of statuses now and all so inventive! I seem to recall that when the original list was made it was just something hastily put together and we never gave much thought to it, really. It was kind of low down on our priority list at the time, I think. <g> Well done to everyone who suggested these. LabRat

Takes a little longer to get your award status, but worth it Agree! I was happy I made it to Pulitzer, but the 'chase' was gone. Now I have something to work towards and I like it! Seemed a bit more logical (and dignified!) to me... Totally understand. Hmmm, the new ones are sooo cute <b> you want the good names.
I've converted to lurk-ism... hopefully only temporary.

While I'm enjoying all of the new levels, I'm really confused. The number of posts don't seem to be adding up to the break down of them on the faq. With my 484 I should be a Columnist shouldn't I? And a lot of other people's levels don't add up. Am I missing something?
Now that I'm back from spring break, I better get on posting because I've got a ways to go now!

Minimunch3, I don't think the faq's have caught up with what is now being used. See Wendy's post (the fourth one down) on the 2nd page.

You'll find the answer to your question earlier in this thread, Nancy. They were changed because Woody suggested new titles and Karen, and others since, suggested what those titles might be. LabRat

WHAT? I'm a Hack from Nowheresville?! I darn well am not! I may possibly be a hack from Rightheresville , but definitely not Nowheresville ! This is an offense against my countrymen! I demand to be promoted immediately! I shall complain to the UN and erect trade bans against you! See how good life is without Nike shoes and Dilmah tea, why won't you?! How about changing the increments between statuses so that they're all equal except for the first and last 3? Maybe like 0, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000?
That way, the newbies won't have to work TOO hard to get to their first two status marks, and the oldies will still have a challenge to get to the Merriwether, Kerth and Pulitzer while not losing hope that they'll ever get there.

I love this forum. Where alse would a question about member status ignite so much disscussion and the admins like us so much that they would change names so many times. Could someone post the most updated version of the titles? The FAQ show a list that doesn't match what I am seeing under the avatars. This is what is shown in FAQ: Posts Title 0 Blogger 50 Freelance Reporter 100 Beat Reporter 300 Columnist 500 Features Writer 750 Front-Page Journalist 1000 Merriwether 1500 Kerth 2500 Pulitzer 5000 Nobel Peace Prize Winner malu EDIT: OK, from the Directory, I can find what are the titles available (but not the number of posts required). Here they are, with the values in front to my guesses of minimum posts: Blogger - 0 (interesting: there are about 1326 out of a total of 2036 users lurking out there with 0 posts ) Freelance Reporter - 50 Hack from Nowheresville - 100 Beat Reporter - 300 Columnist - 500 Features Writer - 750 Top Banana - 1000 Merriwether - 1500 Kerth - 2000 Pulitzer - 2500 or 3000? (We have only one Pulitzer with 3750) Nobel Peace Prize Winner - have no idea (nobody in this level) and the restricted: Section Editor Editor in Chief

freelancers are below hacks from nowheresville? well im not complaining i like being from nowheresville we have very attractive guys with glasses over there. I think freelancers are lower because Clark was a freelancer before Lois called him a Hack from Nowheresville. And where did the "Nobel Peace Prize Winner" status come from?!?

Probably from the "The Longest Road"'s second story, by Rac (it's a Trilogy; the third story is currently under work)? We know that Lois/Ultrawoman got a Nobel Peace prize in that story. malu

I don't think I've read The Longest Road. I meant, when was that particular title included in the status discussions? I don't remember seeing it before you included it in your count things.

Someone other than Labrat, that is... That would be good if I actually qualified for any of these. :p So, spare a thought for those us who are deprived of all the excitement and misery of all these glittering prizes because we're Editors-in-Chief or Section Chiefs by default and have been since practically our first post and who will never reach the heady heights of earning a Kerth, Merriweather, Pulitzer or Nobel Peace Prize! <sob> LabRat

Or you could register a secondary nick (is that allowed?) and start building up your post count all over again... BTW, to make it conform with the show, shouldn't it be the International Peace Prize (instead of Nobel)? BTW, to make it conform with the show, shouldn't it be the International Peace Prize (instead of Nobel)? I've never heard of an International Peace Prize, not even on the show. Whereas, the Nobel Peace Prize is a very well-known prize given world-wide, and to get one a person has to have done something REALLY amazing.

Whereas, the Nobel Peace Prize is a very well-known prize given world-wide, and to get one a person has to have done something REALLY amazing. Oh, I certainly know about the Nobel Prize. In fact (bragging a little here), I personally know a couple of Nobel Prize-winning physicists. No, I meant the International Peace Prize, the award that Superman came flying home with at the beginning of SLV. It was obviously intended as the L&C universe's equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize, but they changed the name to International and had the awards ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden instead of Oslo, Norway. Here's the passage from the script. As far as I remember, that information remained the same in the filmed episode. LOIS: It's not everyday someone from Metropolis wins The International Peace Prize.
JIMMY: I can't believe Superman hasn't won it before now.
LOIS: I guess there was some question as to whether an extraterrestrial was actually eligible.
JIMMY: Well, alien or not, it's about time. Hey, how come you didn't go with Clark to Stockholm to cover the ceremony? Kathy

Hmmm . . . I might just have to re-watch that episode, 'cause I don't remember that part. Doesn't mean it wasn't there though--I've only watched season 4 ONCE since I got the DVDs, as opposed to the 3-4 times I watched the other three seasons.

I remember that scene. It's just before the girl films them to establish whether Superman and Lois are having an affair or not.
As much as I loathe the majority of Season 4 (and even some parts of that episode - suddenly Clark has a problem with *lying* to protect his secret?), it is one of the eps I'll voluntarily rewatch.
Or, uh, parts of it, anyway.
Lois: You know, I have a funny feeling that you didn't tell me your biggest secret.
Clark: Well, just to put your little mind at ease, Lois, you're right. Ides of Metropolis

Sorry if I spoiled the surprise. But it is right there in the FAQ's also, and I just quoted what I read. I thought people knew there was an extra status, that it had been added recently or something, as the ultimate challenge. Once again, sorry. malu

P.S.: By the way, LabRat, you deserve an even greater award than the Nobel Pace Prize. [Big Grin] Keep up the fantastic work! Awwwwww. Thank you, malu! That's so sweet of you. Labby, you can always resign your EIC position and then just jump to Peace Prize right away. Or you could register a secondary nick (is that allowed?) and start building up your post count all over again... As for giving up my EIC status, Kathy...oh no, no, no, no, no. No. <g> That would mean giving up the ability to move or delete posts. Do you know the heady sense of evil power that comes with that? Huh? It appeals to my latent sense of meglomania. <insert evil cackle here> And...start from scratch? Are you trying to kill me, woman? LabRat BTW - has anyone fixed the post nos yet? The last suggestion - sorry, can't remember who suggested them - seems to be logical enough.
