We all know the story. A family of in-explicably white aliens sends their son to Earth, where he lands in America's heartland and is raised by farmers.

But you know, it could have been so different. What if Clark had landed in...oh, say, England? Or greece? Or Australia? What if he was found by a family of Jews? Or Catholics? What if he grew up in the city? What if he was black?

Yes, you've heard of this sort of thing; it's called Elseworlds, and it's been done.

My challenge, though, is not just to write a generic elseworlds. I want to see what would have happened if Kal-El had been raised in *your* culture.

Who knows? Maybe your next-door neighbor has been hiding something from you! laugh

O.O

If Clark Kent had been raised like me, there would be no Superman. There would be Procrastoman. "I'll SAVE THE DAY!!! ...EVENTUALLY!!"

I get what yer saying, I just had a flash of that. laugh Hee!

Interesting idear, though. Hmmm...

Had Clark Kent been found by my parents and adopted (again I know this isn't exactly what you're saying, but...) A) I would have an older brother (okay really, my brain just stopped right there... Clark Kent and Brother are NOT two words I wanna hear in the same sentence in regards to me...) and 2) His name would probably be either Charles Bruce after my grampa, or maybe Savoy Bruce because that was the name my mom had wanted for my sister whom everyone but I thought would be a boy...

And he'd be more messed up because he came from MY family. His morals would probably be molded after my mother's, or perhaps my dad would have taken a bigger role in raising HIM, but doubtful... (not that dad wasn't there for us, mind.)

Of course, all of his personality changes would be debateable over the whole nature/nurture thing. Was it his NATURE to be as Clark was? Monogomous, wholesome, and sometimes naive? Or was that the way that Martha and Jonathan raised him? Had he been stuck as a Bruce (and really, sometimes I feel we're a culture unto ourselves, which is why my brain traveled this way), would he still have become a reporter, or would he have gone as 90% of BOTH sides of my family gone and joined the military?

One thing is for sure, no one would have ever accused my mother (a blue eyed brunette) for lying when she said she didn't babysit when she was out HIM. (Both us girls have reddish hair and hazel eyes.)

And then there's the whole alien thing. Granted, I've always been open and all, and my family isn't prejudiced against what have you (my dad had a low tolerance for Morons, though...), but how would OUR lives have been affected by a child that was more likely not of THIS world?

Gah.

You see where you sent my brain?? Scary places! wink

(I really shouldn't be allowed to think so close to midnight... I might become a gremlin.)

Truth, Justice and the BRUCIE Way!!!

Mmm cheese.

Ohmygod, I think I just died laughing. I'm so glad I'm in bed. This challenge is so brilliant. Oh dear, I have to think about this. I don't know how I feel about subjecting Clark to the Deep South. Oh, I have to think about this. Darnit, and I was actually going to get a good night's sleep before work.

I totally thought about that and then decided their prison record was enough secrets for them.

Well, Jen, I've got a picture to help get you going.

Click here , wait for the page to load (could be a while on dialup), scroll down (go past the " Save A Horse " poster and ignore the man making the rude gesture), and take a look at the fourth picture down.

Paul

P.S. Julie, there's one for you, too! Just look (with a text search, if you like) for the one by pixelswisher . (The pic is just under the name.)

When in doubt, think about penguins. It probably won't help, but at least it'll be fun.

Paulsome of those pics were to disturbing for words but overall they were pretty funny.

This challenge is great. I know if Superman grew up with my family he would be very very different, probably tramatized beyond repair (or maybe thats a genetic thing with us).
Probably not quite as ethical but the nature thing could be argued I guess.
The costume would be different, we would all convince him to wear a mask, no one would allow him to mix primary colors like that and I know my borther we not let him be seen in public with tights, to hell with wind resistance.
He would definetly not be as naive regardless weather his naivete is a result of his krytonian heritage you just cant be naive in my family, they wont allow it.

Actually if superman grew up in my family he wouldnt be superman really he'd be more like batman with superpowers and without the bat theme.

My culture? What's that?

I live in London, which is a fairly diverse city.

On one side my neighbours are Zoroastrians. Not sure how Kal-El would come out from that one, except that he'd probably be a reasonably nice person, like they are, and possibly fairly careful about not hurting bulls or vultures.

On the other side the tenants keep changing - when I was a kid the house belonged to a family whose parents were leading lights in the Communist party, so with them as parents we'd get Truth, Justice and Equal Distribution of Property.

Meanwhile my lot would probably produce a Superman who was either overweight, a heavy smoker, or both - for many years I was the only one in my family that didn't smoke - and probably slightly neurotic.

My actual culture...well, he'd come out of it needing to see Dr. Friskin, but since he saw her in his own culture, no biggie.

I think he'd just be weirded out. I mean, I live in a town where football is first on the Top 10 List of Most Serious Things in Life, and people do things I can't even fathom like deep fry everything on a regular basis, and like everyone's related to each other somehow, like the Mafia, it's a little scary...and my family is from Queens. If it weren't for the fact that my sister got her bachelor's from Auburn University, the culture train would have come screeching to a halt and jumped right over the house.

What if Clark had been found by Chefs, not Farmers:

Faster than a speeding eggbeater! More powerful than a George Foreman Grill! Able to heap all blendings into a single mound! Supperman, strange epicure from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal chefs. Supperman, who can change the course of uninspiring repast, blend meals with his bare hands, and who disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered food critic for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never-ending battle for food, sustenance, and the American gourmet.

*Giggles* AmyN, that was funny! And Punny!

Hee! ^_^ So would Supperman come to the rescue of an overdone steak? Wrong order placement?

perhaps you can draw inspiration from Superman: True Brit laugh

Another that is very interesting is Superman: Red Son
Superman grows up on a colchose in Ukraine.
the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.

This challenge is very interesting. I thought about what would have happened if Clark landed in Germany in 1966. That could have started the third world war since Germany was one of the major issues of the cold war. But I don't think that a war is the right subject for a fanfic. Whatever happened, Clark hadn't been found by the german Joe and Judy Regular. Maybe this would lead to Clark Kent meeting the Pretender. He would be raised by researchers, trained to be the perfect soldier. help
