Interesting. While this version of Barry did strike me as being extremely awkward socially, he did not appear to me to have autism. I think his condition would be better classified as a Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder, since (at least as far as I can recall), Barry did not meet condition "B" for autism in the DSM-5 -- that is, he did not appear to have restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. For what it's worth, I, too, have skin in this game -- or perhaps I should say "flesh and blood"; my son is severely impacted by autism and is quite low functioning.
