While I agree that it would make logical sense to go to Lois's aide as Superman, I liked the idea that Clark was so afraid of what the impostor would do that he did not even think to change, he HAD to protect Lois from the impostor regardless of the potential cost. What bugged me about the series version was that Lois was clueless that 'ordinary' Clark could fight a version of Superman to a draw but in this story that was not in play.
As I said it is a purely personal interpretation and obviously only my view...

If you read carefully, I changed things a bit. I had Clark appear later than Lois would have liked. In the episode, she didn’t expect Clark to show up and defend her honor. She thought she was meeting with Superman, although he was acting strangely. The reason for the delay was he stopped a mugging. He would have done that in the Suit so it made sense for him to appear in the Suit.
Also, they suspect that Luthor is involved so they didn’t want to give the clone any reason to link Clark with Superman and possibly passing that knowledge on to Luthor.
We’ll see just how well that worked out, later.
