At the risk of dragging this off topic: expected to by whom? In the case of the Milgram experiment (the electroshock experiment), Stanley Milgram and his colleagues expected most subjects
not to act the way they did. Although I'm not that familiar with the Stanford prison experiment, I do know that the outcome was unexpected and that's why the study had to be terminated prematurely.
