Preview of 39 "No," Perry admitted. "But I wish there was something I could do to help."
An idea that had been floating nebulously in Clark's mind for a few days suddenly took shape. "There is something," he said.
"Name it."
"I have to be in Melbourne for the 16th of September."
"And I've already said that's fine."
"Would it be OK if I took a slightly longer weekend at the end of next week?" Clark asked.
"You want to go back twice? Next week *and* in September?"
Clark nodded.
Perry chuckled. "Whoa, she must mean a lot to you if you're willing to fly to Australia twice in two weeks."
"She means *everything* to me," Clark asserted.
Perry's humour died. "Sure, that's OK," he said. "You have a lot of leave built up. Go ahead and book the flights; let me know which days you'll be away."
"Thanks, Chief."
"Lucky you're a good flier, huh?"
"Yeah, lucky." FDK goes here! Thanks, Corrina. ETA - Eek, forgot this ... Thanks to Deja Vu for suggesting the Martha and Jonathan scene.

Ah, the ending was sweet! Wonder why Clark wants to go to Australia at the end of the next week? Maybe to help Lois with operation payback? Anyhow, great part and I'm looking forward to the next part - when will the wedding be? Part 45?

Read it and liked it! I really like Chris! And I'm very glad that Lois asked her to share a meal with her. But Mayson scares me. She is certainly a good reporter, because she makes people tell her everything. Now she suspects that Clark fell in love with Lois in Australia. Will she figure out that Clark is indeed Superman and that Lois is Ultra Woman?  Like DW said, Lois and Clark are so sweet together!  I'm just wondering if you are planning something to disturb or postpone the wedding, such as exposing Clark to Mayson's kryptonite? Ann

Sorry for the temporary disappearance! Last few weeks ago before the (well-deserved) holidays have been crazy. But I'm still around and still enjoying inmensely.
I like the new character. I think Chris might be the kind of person that will help Lois keep going when Clark can't be around. Seems somehow like a compensation for Clark's early departure.
The more this story progresses, the more I'm looking forward to see how you work Clark and Lois's situation out. Right now it seems that Lois is unlikely to leave Melbourne. Would that change, with the prospect of reporting the news, instead of footy, in the Daily Planet? Would it be enough for her? Because, Clark, on the other hand, can't really leave Metropolis either, can he? Now that Superman is letting himself be seen more, and even outside the city, moving all the way to Australia would certainly complicate things. I do see him breaking his ties with his life as CK in Metropolis since he probably sees Lois is much tighter bound to Melbourne... Plus, he could eventually confide in Perry and Jimmy, let them also in on the secret and visit often enough...
Just out of curiosity: any clue as to how many more parts there'll be? (Not that I want the story to end... I'll miss it once it's over).
Anyway... keep it coming!

Glad you're having fun with the FDK  Wait. What now?    But he had to be careful. In the tree house ... if she hadn't backed away ... Things would certianly be easier now. He could have slipped into her bed after the rescue and they could have happily proceeded with the heir-making. Her responding smile made him think that had he picked her up, taken her into her bedroom, and begun kissing her the way he wanted to, she wouldn't protest at all. And oddly enough, any sound she made sounded more like 'yes', 'now', 'more', 'faster', and 'stupid spandex pants'... The necessity of chewing gave him a moment to compose himself for the direction of their conversation. "Linda has booked the Honeymoon Suite at the Lexor Hotel for us," he said as evenly as possible.
"Lexor?"
"It's owned by Lex Luthor - he's the third richest man in the world, and a Metropolis identity." I just realized. Lex might just be the person to put sophisticated audio-visual recording equipment into the rooms. Centrally controlled and attached the recording devices. Now, wouldn't 'Ultra Woman Uncovered' make a great headline for the Daily Planet. And Mayson could even sell the unedited version to the Dirt Digger.  Lois shifted on his lap and smiled at him. "What can go wrong?" she said. "We arrive. We say our vows. We let them take photos. We leave." She winked at him. "And then the fun begins."
He grinned. "Are you *trying* to drive me wild?" he asked.  You sure have a marvelous talent at making the most innocent things sound dirty. After all, I'm sure Lois is talking about playing Scrabble and Old Maid and not some variant of Poker "Oooh, Kent," she said, wagging her finger at him. "If you even *think* about doing that, you are going to be in big trouble with the missus." Yeah, only it would backfire for the missus, too You're lucky that I ran out of graemlins. Otherwise I could insert a line of angry green guys down here... Michael Edit: How could I forget... "I thought I'd fly you back to Melbourne immediately after the wedding," Clark said innocently. "And then go looking for something Superman needs to do." /raises hand/ I know something that Superman needs to... Well, the way you put it.

the high price of relocating sat heavily on her heart. Nice line, sets Lane up as thinking about the hard choices. This was the perfect opportunity to bring together Superman and his nemesis. When Mayson goes after Clark with Green Kryptonite and Lois unleashes MadDogLane it should help Lois focus. The way I see it MadDogLane will - save Clark's life
- Stop Clark from abandoning the role of Superman
- expose Mayson Drake as a fraud
- bring Public opinion around to be completely on Superman's side
"I thought I'd fly you back to Melbourne immediately after the wedding," Clark said innocently. "And then go looking for something Superman needs to do." We all know what that means, the Wedding will be interrupted, like we didn't see that coming, by the fine folks from Eprad with NEWS of the The Nightfall Asteroid.

Still here. Still loving this story!  But this... Mayson returned to her desk, deep in thought.
A changed Clark Kent had come back from Australia.
The woman who had broken Scardino's heart had found someone else.
Was Kent that *someone*? The Queen of Evil has made the connection.  I suddenly see a much increased risk of a catastrophic discovery when she uses her Kryptonite. I just hope that there is a possibility that Dan will hit it off with Chris when he gets back to Melbourne. After Lois broke his heart and then Mayson abused it, he deserves to catch a break. Bob

I might be reading it all wrong, but I'm going to side with bobbart where Dan is concerned. I certainly don't see the Scardino from the show or at least I don't get the feeling that Corrina's character is quite the same. Just like Mayson isn't either (I never liked her in the show, but this Mayson... well, she'd be eye to eye with Lex, IMO)
He and Lois are friends; good friends. I think we should trust her good judgement and give the guy a break (hopefully, Chris can help there).

 Is Mayson going to bring the kryptonite to the wedding? And Lex is her escort!!! UltraWoman needs to be ready to rescue Superman. Mayson is certainly power hungry in addition to her other evils. And I don't see how they can stay at the Lexor and be able to trust that no one is trying to spy on them or listen in; so I think they should just enjoy a few minutes there and fly from the balcony to a more private secret destination.

DW Clark's plan is to be there for the Operation Payback rally and the last game before the finals. If Hawthorn don't make the finals, that could be their last game - depending on the merger vote. Wedding - I'm writing 44 now and I'm hoping to be able to cover everything needed before we get to the wedding. If I can, then yes, the wedding will be in 45. Thanks. Ann I think an area that canon never really explored was a close female friend for Lois. I can understand why they didn't, but I think it leaves a great opportunity for fanfic writers to go there. I should be banned from making estimates of story sizes because I'm hopelessly bad at it. I have a buffer of five parts; I can't see it finishing in any less than another five. Each week the ladder is updated, but it's the ladder at the end of Round 22 that determines which teams play in the finals. Hawthorn have just played Round 20, so are guaranteed two more games. When I read this, it was very close to a splutter-coffee-on-the-keyboard moment! Two possible reactions. Not sure which one is dominant: a) Good. Another job well done  b) Huh. I need to improve my FDK skills until coffee actually hits keyboard. Please keep reading though, I love your FDK! I haven't had time to write feedback lately, but am still reading and absolutely loving this fic! I know how it's going to work out, but I'm not sure how I'm going to write it.
