Chapter 2 lives here.

Summary: Location Challenge Submission! Lois and Clark travel to Egypt to cover a huge archeological discovery that will ultimately debut at the Museum of Metropolis. One of Perry’s oldest friends is on the dig site, and when mysterious things start to happen, he asks for his old friend’s help. Perry’s solution, of course, is to send his best investigative team to get to the bottom of the ‘curse of the mummy’ that is plaguing the dig. But as things heat up in the investigation, things heat up between Lois and Clark, too.

A/N: This takes place in season 2. Its best place is likely a couple of episodes after Arianna Carlin wreaks havoc in Madame Ex, probably the week after we meet The Prankster, but before Mayson complicates things in Church of Metropolis (and certainly before Lex comes back in The Phoenix).

Enormous thanks to 90stvfangirl who kindly agreed to beta back when this story was supposed to be a sweet little 75 pages.

Again, at least 3 pages of historical notes coming along with the epilogue for anyone who’s into that, since they’re very spoilery.

The mystery begins!

Any comments are always appreciated! notworthy

Oh, now Lois and Clark have to go after a mummy? One that looks like Arnold Vosloo?

I'm hooked.

I wish he (or she, really, at this point) looked like Arnold Vosloo! (Maybe we can just include that part in our imaginations, lol). But I did give Lois a few heart-fluttery views of Clark, so hopefully that satisfies! wink

Their adventure looks very promising. It's also nice to see that Lois and Clark are still in sync and working well together, even after the recent disaster with Luthor.

Stories are written by the victors.

I love this so much. The best thing is that in this fandom, there's 50/50 odds of it being a human criminal or an actual job-for-Superman mummy, and I so look forward to seeing how the plot unravels! smile

Honestly this is a real change of pace. Sand, sun... and mummies! So glad Queenie issued the challenge.

Quote
“Oh, yes,” Carnahan laughed. “I remember many drunken debates about journalistic ethics over the years, all whilst Elvis records fought for our attention in the background.”

“How long have you known each other?” asked Clark.

“A good many years now,” Carnahan said fondly. “I was his expert in antiquities while he was on the arts beat.”

“The arts beat?!” Lois exclaimed, shocked.

“He felt much the same,” Carnahan said with a conspiratorial grin. “But he was young, just starting out. And anyway he ended up chasing down so many tough and gritty stories about crime and politics and all that, well, he didn’t last very long reporting on museums and gallery openings. …which was still too long, as far as he was concerned.”

lol rotflol

Perry did the arts beat? Oh man, he must have been seriously desperate to join the paper. Still, this is a neat little slice of Perry's youth. Thanks for that!

Quote
“I believe that there is something happening at KV5 that should not be happening. However,” Carnahan stipulated with a light chuckle, steepling his fingers together, “I wasn’t the first one in the tomb that day. And I didn’t open the sarcophagus. So I suppose I have less of a stake in the matter.”

...and the plot thickens. help

A writer's job is to think of new plots and create characters who stay with you long after the final page has been read. If that mission is accomplished than we have done what we set out to do, which is to entertain and hopefully educate.

Peixinho, thanks so much for your encouragement! And yeah, the partners are definitely working well together, but I think you'll be seeing some cracks in the relationship. They're not as in sync as they might look. But maybe we'll get there? wink

QueenoftheCapes, oh, I'm SO glad. I was reeeeeeally excited when you came up with this challenge. I don't even think I'd finished reading your initial pitch in discord before my brain was like, "we're all going to Egypt." Maybe I was over-excited, though, because this story got more out of hand than my usual challenge responses. Also, 'how the plot unravels...' I see what you did there. lol

Morgana, I could not resist giving Perry the arts beat. It felt like something he would never admit to these days, but it was probably invaluable for him, and part of the reason he gives Lois as much leeway as he does. He remembers chomping at the bit, too, when he was that young. And just wait: this plot is going to get a WHOLE lot thicker, lol.

Thanks to everyone who's reading along!

Hehe!

Dr. Carnahan seems very nice! And his tent, I love how vibrant and colourful it is!

I am very intrigued by the mystery (curse? Nah! I'm with Lois here!)! Let's meet the team, then!!
