I can't seem to write anything in a very short form, so here's my attempt at a Micro or Super Short story! It's just terribly silly. Also, I don't think we get enough Abbott and Costello references in real life, so this is my attempt to help balance the universe there.

No beta on this one, so any mistakes are my own! I don't mind having them pointed out, since I'll plan to submit this to the archive. And of course, any other comments are really just the cherries on top of this little fluffy, whipped cream ficlet.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. I think this story is a contender for my least favorite title of a story ever. So if anyone has anything clever, I'm definitely open to options! lol

Looking forward to this summer's Location Challenge! Looks like stories are due around August 1st, and then polls open for voting!

Oh, you made me laugh with that one! It was very funny. And I like the title, though I might not be the best judge XD

This was too much fun! Jimmy being so nonchalant about it all at first. Of course he would assume Lois knew.
And then she backs him into a corner and forces him to tell when he realizes she didn't.
I need to know what happens next. What does Clark say when he realizes his goof? Will Lois call him out or not tell him that she knows? How long will it take Jimmy to apologize for opening his big mouth?
Sequel?

This was very funny. I love it! I like how Jimmy figured out that CK was Superman and assumed Lois knew. Please write more! I would like to know what happens next. Thank you!

Oh my goodness! Talk about your cliff hangers!

Jimmy is way smarter than Lois thought. I know this is set in Season Two, but in my eyes, Jimmy will always be portrayed by Michael Landes dance

Great entry to Ficlet Friday.

Aw, thanks, everybody! This really was a one-shot, just something that was really no pressure to write (since I have a handful of very long, very dramatic stories in the works right now and they're a little more stressful). But, well, since the comments gave me some ideas, you'll see this pop up again. Keep an eye out on random Fridays for the Pizza Run Series (I can't believe the terrible title will be around even longer; we really need a facepalm emoji on the boards).

Peixinho - so happy to have made you laugh! And I guess the title is sticking! lol Thanks so much for the comment!

Amanda - thank you so much for leaving such thoughtful comments. Your questions always prompt story ideas. (Was that your plan all along??) I was deeply hoping that this would REMAIN a one-shot, but direct sequel next Friday, then probably a few weeks until the next. Maybe 7 parts in all now?

Bakasi - Comedy is SO hard! I'm glad this worked for you. Your choice of the word 'fallout' was really inspiring; I've got the image of lots of little meteorites hitting across a longer span of time now for this story. <3

Songbird - thanks so much for the kind words! Next up: Clark gets the pizza, lol.

PuffyTiger - Thanks so much, Verity! 'Tasty' is such a fun pun for a pizza fic!

Morgana thanks so much! And Jimmy is definitely so smart - he'd never be Lois' main researcher if he wasn't! I love both versions but when we get to season 2, I absolutely miss the Jimmy that teaches her how to pick locks and boost cars and helps her with her disguises.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting on this silly one!

ROTFLOL!!! Oh this is beautiful. Clark is so dead.

I've been behind on all the reading, so Bek brought this up on the discord, I figured I might as well move it to the top of the to-read pile and have at it. So glad I did. This has to be the first fic I've ever seen where Jimmy finds out before Lois. Plus, as a fan of classic comedy, the Who's On First gag it degenerates into just makes it SO much better! <3

And best of all, there's more~!

Hi Evie!
Quote
s say early season 2. Just for fun, and just a one-shot.

Does that mean the not yet read Last Run isn’t the second story in a marathon run series?

Quote
trolling the internet for a backdoor into the Bank of Metropolis and the Mayor’s business accounts.

Umm…/points at 1994/ so, probably a not well-known mailing list holding all the information in plaintext since nobody would ever find it anyway evil

Quote
Several hours in and they’d barely started, as far as Lois was concerned, an opinion which the other occupants of the newsroom could feel as if it were a tangible thing.

Time for Perry to set up a separate place for Lois and Clark to retire to when they want to spend the night together. Otherwise, the cloud of doom will prevent the timely publication of the morning edition.

Quote
“Anybody else hungry?”

One desk over from her, she heard Clark’s chair push back and looked up to see him standing.

Getting food is a good cover for getting a Superman scoop of the police report they just caught on the scanner, the details of which Lois ignored just two thoughts prior.

LOIS: Superman’s not there, can’t be important.

Quote
“I think I’ll just, um, go and grab a pizza,” Clark said, abruptly heading toward the elevator.

Shootout at The La Trattoria? The Cannoli family edging into Provolone territory?

Quote
“We’ll, uh, be able to think better if we’re well fed,” he said in a rush.

An excuse married Lois will use further down the road when she argues for some impromptu R&R in the storage closet.

Quote
Meanwhile, Clark had backtracked from the elevator and was headed toward the stairwell as if in a hurry,

Things are heating up, the Mascarpones have sent a delegation as well, trying to get a seat at the negotiation table.

Quote
. “I know. I’ll head straight there and be right back. I promise.”

But how will he explain the absence of pizza?

Quote
“You know, you don’t have to do that for my benefit,” Jimmy said.

“Do what?” she asked crossly.

“You know, the whole song and dance about you being mad about him leaving. I’m the only other person here, and you guys know I won’t say anything.

shock jawdrop thud

Poor ignorant savant gopher.

Quote
Anyway, it’s okay to just let him go save the day.”

“By getting a pizza?” Lois snorted.

On the plus side, at least he didn’t assume she and Clark… share a cape.

Quote
“You’re in trouble because you aren’t saying anything!”

His brows scrunched. “What?”

“Exactly!”

“Huh?”

“Jimmy!”

You did some great dialog work there clap

Quote
“I am annoyed,” she said. “I don’t have to pretend that, not when we’ve got hours of work left.”

Jimmy stared at her for a moment.

rotflol

JIMMY: oh boy.

Quote
“Do you really not know?” he asked uncertainly.

Oops?

Quote
“KNEW WHAT?”

“Oh, that CK is…” he gestured vaguely upward, “you know?”

JIMMY: but…but… she was so close. Her eyes, they were this hypnotic shade of orange. It was like looking straight into the fires of hell. I couldn’t not say anything, you know? Please don’t kill me! Or…you know…put me on an ice float in the Arctic.

Also, I never would have expected Jimmy to know about Clark before you brought it up. That was not what I was expecting from the setup. Marvelous clap

Quote
Jimmy froze too, the way you would if you were trapped somewhere with a wild animal that you didn’t want to provoke into attack.

You mean, like a mad dog.

Quote
He nodded once, still trying to stay unassuming and small.

Then, unexpectedly, Lois threw her head back and laughed.

She laughed long enough that it made Jimmy nervous.

“Uh, Lois?” he asked tentatively.

She kept laughing.

“Lois?”

This is a story that keeps giving clap

Quote
“Jimmy, what in the world ever made you think that Clark is Superman?” she asked, still gasping for air.

“The scanner,” Jimmy said, gesturing behind him.

Oh, that’s a great twist! Jimmy always gophering with the scanner, noticing a pattern.

Quote
“Just think about it,” he implored. “How many dentist appointments can one guy have?”

Considering how he eats…

Quote
How did you figure it out?!”

Perry knows. And Jimmy just didn’t make assumptions about Clark’s genetic inadequacies.

Quote
“Don’t you mean, ‘how did you not figure it out?’”

“Oh my god,” she said, horrified, sitting down hard in the nearest chair.

Now she’ll have to share her next Kerth Award with Jimmy!

Quote
“I’m going to kill him,” she swore, putting her head in her hands as if to hide from the truth she was facing.

No, she won’t. She doesn’t have kryptonite. And she can be sure that Mayson doesn’t fit Clark’s preferred dating scheme.

Quote
“How?” Jimmy asked without thinking, a chuckle escaping. “I don’t think you can even hurt him, let alone—“

She could seriously date Call-Ma-Daniel.

Quote
“Hi! I’m back!” he said, with a winning smile. “Told you it would be quick!”

Lois and Jimmy stared at him, both silent.

“What?” he asked, smile askew, hands immediately tightening the knot of his tie.

Where’s the pizza? Also, nice foreshadowing, Clark using both hands not holding aforementioned pizza.

Quote
“Clark…?” she drawled, her voice deadly neutral.

Where. Is. My. Pizza?

Quote
“Where’s the pizza?” she asked dangerously.

rotflol

And by now I know that I can go and read The Long Run.

“No, Jimmy,” Lois refused the idea flatly.

The scanner crackled, the low hum of voices in the background coming into focus. “Superman on the scene of the 10-82 on Center and 14th.”

Hah!! Jimmy is brilliant!!
