He berley hears a quiet wimper and follows it to an alley where he find a baby.
The baby is a new born boy who was wraped in news paper while still wet and left in a bin/garbage can.
Superman takes the baby to the hospital because he is too cold.
Superman visits later (different story in the series) and the nurse asks if superman would like to give him a name.
Superman names him Jonathan.
