Ahhhh, I'm so very behind on reading and commenting lately, but I need to be better about it. I'm so happy these MBs are still kicking after all these years, so I know I need to feed the other authors FDK if we want them to keep posting!

Here's my latest in the 110 Kisses Series. This one is #6: This Isn't Fair

I read the fic way to fast and probably should reread before commenting but anyway here I am..

This had so many feels, I mean...

Quote
I suspect he’s afraid to let himself relax, because even though he just flew away from devastation and loss, a more heart wrenching devastation is waiting for him here at home when he does.

We’ve done impossible things before.

It's funny because thirtyish (!!) years ago when I watched this episode I was so annoyed at how positive Clark was at the very end of the episode, the whole "love makes everything possible" yadda, yadda. I've always been Clark, that's great, but not how things work in this case.... but now (and especially after seeing the new movie), I am just... well, that's just how Clark is, always hopeful etc. And nice to see it's rubbed off on Lois.

Anyway, rambling..........but loved it!

Yes you have. Be patient. The best is yet to come.

Good story. The pain... and the hope these two fine people share radiates off the page.

A writer's job is to think of new plots and create characters who stay with you long after the final page has been read. If that mission is accomplished than we have done what we set out to do, which is to entertain and hopefully educate.

This is wonderfully written. I could feel Lois’s pain. The ending is hopeful. They have done impossible things before. Thanks for a lovely fic! I love this series!

Hi Sara!
Quote
Here’s number 6. “This isn’t fair!”
/sends hugs/

Also, I realized while writing FDK, I’m still looking for humorous quips despite the personal subject matter. peep They’re meant for the story!

Quote
the dumplings we had for dinner from our favorite local Chinese food place were made of lead.
This is nicely done, having Lois consider non-digestible food as a reference point.

CLARK: Honey, those dumplings are a wonderful fortification for my next meeting with Lex. Thank you for being so thoughtful.

Quote
But the guilt of it doesn’t feel as bad as the lead dumplings do,
clap

Quote
Incompatible biology. Because no matter how much he looked like an ordinary man nor how utterly human his heart was, Clark was an alien.
Hey, you can’t even crossbreed a Lois and a Lex successfully, imagine how much worse the chances are when one’s not just inhuman but non-human.

Quote
And it’s something we somehow neglected to talk about all this time, being so cavalierly naïve about our biological compatibility.
Yeah, they kind of … fit so we’ll together after all. peep

Quote
Not until a few months ago, but even then, we just . . . assumed that typical methods of birth control would be enough for us. How gutting to know that it didn’t even matter anyway.
They could just stop with birth control and disprove science. Maybe it’s even enough if they simply abstain from abstaining? peep

Quote
My every instinct is to push the tears away, but I think I need to let them come. Especially since Clark isn’t here. The very last thing I want is to hurt him more, and I know it kills him to see me cry.
Poor dear! And poor Sara! No funny quips here whinging

Quote
A low wail escapes me, and I clap my hand over my mouth, hoping desperately he didn’t hear it somehow.
This is so adorably sad!

Quote
I’m feeling so unmoored. The very idea of having children was something . . . well, it never was an idea, not until more than a year of dating Clark. Even then, the thoughts were abstract, some nebulous thing that would be nice in the future.
Oh dear, what if the notion of Superman’s descendants survives the mind wipe in Tempus Fugitive?

Quote
Maybe that’s a silly notion, since I’m always waiting for him whether I’m on the bed or couch, but it makes my heart feel better and makes it easier to drift off to sleep.
Also, not a cold empty *big* bed she can’t share. Couch isn’t so lonely

Quote
. “This isn’t fair,” I say in a hoarse whisper, my throat raw from the crying earlier.
Title! Also, will he notice the streaks from the tears?

Quote
The suit was either dirty or he’s upset with Superman, maybe both.
laugh Bad Superman. No Lois for you tonight.

Quote
“I love you too.” For a moment, I’m at a loss for what else I can say, and we lie there in silence.
Which is why you answer “I know” instead to “I love you “.

Quote
. “We’ve done impossible things before . . .”
Awwww … she still has desperate, defiant hope.

Quote
We’ve done impossible things before.

The end
And a typical adage to the sentence: “naked”.

This was heartfelt and heartwrenching. thud

So glad I realized I missed this one when you posted!

Quote
So, yeah, there’s nothing to distract me right now.
Oof, sometimes these are the worst days!

Quote
Incompatible.
I winced at this.

Quote
...nor how utterly human his heart was, Clark was an alien.
whinging

Quote
...hoping desperately he didn’t hear it somehow.
This almost feels more tragic than her crying.

Quote
He doesn’t need to see this, because I don’t think he’ll understand that half of this pain is for him, for all the things he lost today.
That's an incredibly nuanced punch to the reader's gut.

Quote
We’d already proven every fear I had about marriage wrong.
This is such an incredible sentiment!

Quote
an ache of yearning for something that was never actually there but still missing.
This is so desperately well articulated.

Quote
“This isn't fair,” I say in a hoarse whisper, my throat raw from the crying earlier.
There’s just silence for a moment, then another kiss at my temple and his fingers delicately brushing hair from my face. “It’s not,” he agrees quietly.
Ugh, that's so hard. whinging

Quote
The suit was either dirty or he’s upset with Superman, maybe both.
Omg, I love this! lol I know it's not exactly a comic-driven line, but it really tickles me!

Quote
“We’ve done impossible things before . . .”
Awww. That's also just the most Lois Lane thing ever.

I don’t even know if my sentence had an ending—just half a wish hanging in the air—but I feel Clark nod in agreement. And then something settles, a tendril of hope weaving its way into my heart, and somehow, I can sense Clark feels it too.
This is such a great tag to wrap up the emotional journey here.

This was such a tragic read! Still a great entry into this series!

Looking forward to this summer's Location Challenge! Looks like stories are due around August 1st, and then polls open for voting!

And don't forget about the 2026 fundraiser! Head over to the Fundraising page to donate or consider adding a story to the Keepsake Collection fundraising drive!

This was very heartbreaking and well written!
