This is a very intriguing chapter. You do a great job of showing us Clark's world, how he needs to prepare for his flight, his doubts about attending the Kerths. How will Lois react when she sees him again? Did he just up and vanish?
Clark's feelings toward her are clearly ambiguous.

I'm very curious about what happened. Did he leave Metropolis without talking to Lois? Or did they have an argument (about Superman?) and he left? spider So far, there are more questions than answers. I imagine Lois will be attending the Kerths. I hope their meeting sheds some light on what happened.

From these wonderful descriptions, I get the definite sense that Kal is not only blind, but is completely vulnerable after the 'accident'. Despite this handicap, he's neither bitter nor angry, he is merely existing, which is so unlike Clark. All through this part I kept thinking, no, he'll wake up and it will be from a nightmare...

His boss, Anderson seems to be an empathic person. One gets the feeling that he wants Kal to attend the awards ceremony not just to boost the paper's circulation, but more for the stoic reporter's own mental and emotional good. Does he know about Clark... excuse me Kal's past?

Where are Martha and Jonathan? dizzy

A writer's job is to think of new plots and create characters who stay with you long after the final page has been read. If that mission is accomplished than we have done what we set out to do, which is to entertain and hopefully educate.

These are great questions! I believe you will have your answers (at least partially) soon!

These are also wonderful questions. I don't know that your answers will come as soon though...

This is exactly what I was hoping to convey and I am grateful for the confirmation that I did. You also have some fantastic questions; however, I cannot guarantee you will get all of your answers. We will have to see... wink

There'd been a time when flying meant something else entirely. Freedom.

He used to know exactly how fast he was moving. How high. Which direction. Now, he had only his instincts and the occasional shift in pressure to go by—and it wasn't enough. Not for someone who used to be the flight path.

That must be so hard for him!

He just couldn't decide if Lois was one of them—or the reason he'd come at all.

Well, of course she's the reason he's here.....right? right???

Very powerful writing, drawing us into how things are now for Kal. You have definitely intrigued me, and I'm wondering...

Has he isolated himself from his entire support system? It reads as though he doesn't have a social life now. He seems to be the opposite of Clark, who made friends fairly easily and kept them. And as Morgana asked, where are Martha & Jonathan?

I also wonder how he presumably got a job at a newspaper presumably without a history, including a resume, a journalism degree, a portfolio, and references.

And then there are the more mundane questions, like how in the world does he trim his hair and either shave or trim a beard? huh

Thank you for pointing that out! I have gone back and added references to Martha and Jonathan into the earlier chapters (mostly 1 - 10 at this point). The posts have been updated on here to reflect those edits. While Kal's (Clark's) behavior may seem a bit out of character for how he and his parents get along, I tried to keep it within reason after such a drastic change in his life.

I admit I oversimplified that aspect of things, relying on 'movie magic' to keep from getting bogged down in the minutia of the creation of a new identity. (I did a better job of writing a more realistic explanation in the updated version of Zenith but couldn't think of a way to do it in this story without Jimmy being able to hunt him down.)

That has kind of been addressed in the edits I made in the earlier chapters. Kal's hair is long but I still haven't figured out a good way to explain about the beard. My original thought was that he rubbed that Kryptonite paste Diana Stride made on a razor so his facial hair would be temporarily vulnerable but when I double checked the timeline, Top Copy aired after The Eyes Have It so that wouldn't work. I'm still trying to think of a possible method for him to use that no one else has written. If I think of one, I will go back and edit the story to include it; otherwise, his shaving may have to fall into the category of 'movie magic' as well.

Thank you to all the readers and reviewers. I appreciate any feedback provided and take it into consideration when editing.
