I haven't used photoshop in a while, but I decided to change my avatar which I managed to do. However when I tried to crop the image I wanted it gave me an error message stating the following:

'This action could not be performed because the scratch disks are full'

I tried closing the program and restarting it, but it did the same thing each time. I found a way around it so it isn't urgent, but I was wondering if anyone knew what it meant?

Basically you don't have enough space on your Hard Drive is your issue.

I usually find when I get this message that if I go and delete a few things I don't need of my HD it is happy.

Photoshop uses a lot of virtual memory when it makes a .psd. While the end file is not that big while it is creating it it can be pretty large. While it is waiting for you to save it in it's final format the virtual memory it takes up as a .psd can be big so I'm sure if you take a gander you will find you don't have a lot of space left and that is the issue.
