I have an announcement:

Starting today, I'm boycotting the whole Email thing!

Those of you who've chatted with me on IRC while I was on my own computer may have heard my many gripes about Juno. It floods the computer with ads, disconnects every chance it gets, and generally makes a huge nusaince of itself.

Well, Last night was the ultimate betrayal: Juno wouldn't let me log on. It forced me to sign up with NetZero (a company that merged with Juno) and even then, they said I could only have 10 free hours a month. Unreasonable!

I told my father that, because of this, I wanted to get a different internet provider and write Juno/NetZero a nasty letter insulting them and their mothers. At this point, Dad told me that there's getting to be NO MORE FREE EMAIL SERVICES.

That was the last straw!

So from now on, here is my new "Email Adress"

Yes, I'm switching over to letters and stamps. I'd rather pay 37 cents an ounce or something than $14.99 a month.

I will still go online, but I may have to stay off-line when I'm in my room on my own computer.

So there you have it! I'm rebelling against the system. Now if I can just get me some Superman stamps...

hmmm maybe you could get a yahoo or hotmail address? i don't know if thats an option or not but i'm happy with their email as far as internet provider i use a cable modem. Sorry if i didn't help

For free e-mail, I would recommend gmail from Google. They give you 1 GB of space and they've got a really good spam filter - not that I got any spam in that e-mail until I foolishly created an account on a stupid junk website with that e-mail. The catch though is that you need an invitation to get a gmail account. I've got 8 extra invitations that I'm happy to give to anyone who wants it. Just let me know an e-mail address I can send the invitation to.

Sorry, no idea about free ISP since I use DSL.

I'd definitely recommend finding a new, stable email provider over a land address, Mary.

For one thing, it would be extremely difficult for you to work with the Archive and a GE on edits on your stories if you were to submit them.

Trust me. I speak as an author who has lived in the non-internet age. One of the blessings of the net coming along was an end to spending long, interminable months swapping letters with zine editors. Very time-comsuming and not at all practical.

/me wonders how we ever survived, now that she thinks of it!

There are many email providers out there. I'm sure that one of them will prove workable for you. So don't give up!
