...what would he notch?
Cat Grant supposedly notched her garter belt.
What would Lex metaphorically notch?

I assume you're talking about something more fancyful than the bedpost for conquests and the belt for kills, right?
So, are you talking kills or conquests?

Hmm, right now all I can think of is bedpost. Sorry On the other hand, it would mean, that who ever is talking about him, isn't willing to consider him special enough to warrant a particularly fancy scoreboard. As in, underneath it all, Lex is just another "typical male". Or perhaps, he check off names in his little back book. Michael

A golden bed post or some ancient fertility statue maybe?

His check-book? Or one of his credit cards? (As in... 'another notch in his American Express' - where you can (maybe?) take 'express' literally... ) Or how about notching Lextower (or the Lexor)? How do you feel about notching 'that ancient sword of his' - the one used by Alexander the Great to defeat Darius III...

Lex would never do anything so gauche as to 'notch' anything to enumerate his conquests.
He has people to do that for him.

Notches do seem a bit gauche for Lex. Perhaps he would ask someone to sign the guest book? Or perhaps he prefers a video record? (Where's the emoticon which is retching?) Elisabeth

James told me last night, "You know. I was thinking figuratively, as if Lex were thinking to himself, 'That's another notch on my __________.'" I told him that I didn't take his question figuratively at all. I'm at a complete loss.

Well, in this case I have to agree with you, Elisabeth. Lex would never even consider notching anything, either figuratively or literally. He'd rather consider his latest conquest 'another itch that was scratched' - there was some situation where he told one of his lovers (was it Dr. Baines? ) that she had been an itch to be scratched, after all. Because of that, I understood James' request in the way that someone else remarks on Lex notching something.

You're right. He told that to Miranda, which was why she launched Revenge on the DP and on Lex.

After much concideration, I would agree that Lex wouldn't 'notch' anything.
I'll have to come up with a different thought for him.
