Post-traumatic stress disorder is what I'm trying to show in this part of the story. For Clark, being thrown into a situation where his life was threatened and where he had to do things completely against everything he'd ever been taught left him with scars -- not physical ones, since he's invulnerable, but mental and emotional ones.
