I can imagine why Clark would be torn. He didn't leave because he didn't want Lois in his life. He left because he didn't want to burden her and also needed some time to figure out how to go on with his life and grief for what he's lost. I'd say that is a very natural reaction.
And now she's hurt. I wonder how Clark is going to handle that. Speeding toward her in a matter of seconds once was possible for him, which makes waiting that much harder, I guess.
