This works for me. Really.

I find myself surprised and impressed. You've taken a small supporting character whose original role as potential alternate love interest for Clark virtually *guarantees* that she *can't* be liked by the fans, and managed to turn her into a genuine, well-rounded, reasonable human being. Although I must admit that I am more sympathetic to her here in chapter 3 (as she is recognizing Clark's devotion to Lois) than I was in chapter 1. In other words, you are doing a lovely job of growing and maturing your character; very nice.
