Whoa. What a harsh ending to such a lovely day for the Kent Family (and I include James in this "Family" as well as he was essentially the liaison between them and the Superman Foundation.)
The big question Clark may have to face if James brings him the option of becoming "Clark Kent from Smallville" and "Superman" separately is whether he wants to do it without his parents by his side. If that, then Lois will have to face a world with just Superman. Forever.
CLARK: No. I'm just worried I'm a jinx.
JONATHAN: A jinx?
CLARK: Yeah. Let's face it, ever since she's known me, Lois's been kidnapped, frozen, pushed off buildings, almost stabbed, poisoned, buried alive and who knows what else, and it's all because of me.
