The meteor plot (as first seen in the film Meteor in 1979) isn't exactly new, and the thing about Clark possibly hurting Lois goes back to Larry Niven's hilarious
Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex of 1971. And of course Tron had VR in 1982, though not nearly that realistic, and it was a common theme in SF books around that time.
