Taking advantage of circumstances that may have been inplied but not specifically mentioned can work very well in answering and thus solving a challenge type situation.

While the obvious visual one would take from the initial set up would be one of a typical gallows style rope and noose set up. But it wasn't specifially spelled out and so the challenged gentle writer is free to extrapolate conditions that fit their own vision without contradicting the initial chapter.
