Over in the Polls folder, there's a bit of discussion going on about what it would take to motivate a bit more... action, shall we say. And I just remembered another challenge which went down very well in my other fandom. It's called the First Lines Challenge. Basic principle: people post sentences - could be lines of dialogue, could be narrative - and other people write stories using one of those lines as the first line of their story.

So, if LabRat posted "Fancy seeing you here!" Tempus said to Lex Luthor, then I could write a story with that as the opening line. Could be humour, could be serious, could be angsty, could be complete and total crack.

I'll kick things off with a few lines, then.


1. "What do you mean, we're fraternal twins?"

2. A terrifying wail went up as, with an ominous crack, the bridge finally collapsed and fell into the river.

3. "Jimmy, are you wearing a bra?"

4. "How long have you known you could fly?"

OOO! This sounds like fun...I think I will go for door number 4...but knowing me I will start it, then my muse will leave and it will never be heard from again...

Here are some lines:

Off the top of my head:

1. "They make chocolate flavoured soda now? I want some!"

2. It was not a cold and dreary night, but it sure felt like one.

3. "I want a divorce."

4. "What's the point of slipping into something more comfortable, if I'm only going to slip you out of it in five seconds?"

5. Jimmy was not who they all thought he was.

6. Star labs was noticebaly covered in a thick silvery substance as Superman landed in the parking lot next to a throng of curious onlookers.

7. Metropolis University would never feel the same after Lois and Linda finished their battles.

8. "Cat, will you make my life complete and marry me?"
"I thought you would never ask, Jimmy."

9. "This is starting to feel a lot like a TV show."
"Any in particular?"


I'm pretty busy right now (moving across the country), but I might try my hand again at writing after giving up on my last attempt. I'll just wait to see what other sentences get suggested.

I couldn’t help but be silly and comment on a couple of these.


“Yes, Lois. For a long time. Yahoo! And I’m not talking about the email service.”


Believe it or not, they are actually married in one of my fics. It kind of started as a joke, but I seemed to have made it work.


1. Why are you kissing my sister?

2. “Could you please explain to me who Zara is?” Lois hissed.

“Umm... Well, you see Lois. I... uhh... We were... well, we...”

Zara shoved the door open. “Yes, please *do* tell her who I am,” she said angrily. “And then you can tell her who this is!”

Really? Which one is that?

A New Hero. A work in progress that is currently quite neglected. But Cat and Jimmy do not play a big part in the story. Cat does find out who Superman really is though.

Have totally been trying to find a way to do this fic in less than an hour and it's so not coming to me.

However, I do think it would fit nicely in a WIP . Or two actually. Hmm... will have to ponder that... .

ORG - No - I've been combining these with Labby's one hour challenge in my Assignment Series. I think the one I was thinking of was the fraternal twin one. There's 5 of those btw but not all of them start with one of these lines - I think 3 of them do at the moment.
