Hurray for the magazine coming to Clark's rescue! And yes, Clark *is* the kind of fellow to let shoddy service go. And Lois so isn't.  I was... well, charmed is the best word, I think, when Clark picked out the perfect dress for Lois. Lovely little sequence there.  But $300 is high-priced? Get me to Metropolis. Good quality clothing can easily go higher than that, especially if it's displayed in the window! One question, Wendy: Imagining himself prowling out of the changing room in the tight jeans, an equally tight black T-shirt and one of those expensive jackets, hair slicked back from his face and his spectacles replaced with a pair of shades. Isn't that Spike?  I'm glad I came back for a visit again before turning in. Looking forward to MORE! Hazel

But that was all. He wasn’t a man she was interested in. Hah!! Keep being delusional, Lois, and I'll have to use the shears on you. And it won't be pretty! And he’s in love with someone else, Lois! she told herself sharply. Hmm. Or maybe it's on Martha that I need to use the shears. It would feel like a date. It already felt like a date, with his suggestion that they both dress up for the occasion and that she buy something new to match his new outfit. It wouldn’t be a date. He’d only invited her to thank her for her help today. So there was no point in fantasising... YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TTT = 1; Lois = 0. As for Clark and his haircut, it was a close call. She'd have killed him if she'd got her way and gone back Hair Artistry to find that a) he'd cancelled his appointment to go to his usual barber's, and b) he'd called her his girlfriend. Could've been fun, though.  “Lois, take a look at this.” His admiring voice drew her back to him, and she realised that they were just by one of the women’s fashion franchises. One of the lesser-known Italian designer labels, she saw, a company whose clothes she usually liked. Aww. Clark would look cute in that dress. Lois, make him try it on, quick!  “Okay,” she agreed, smiling slightly. “I’m just going to try it, though. I won’t be buying it.” Famous last words... “Lois, I love it! You look... you look gorgeous. You take my breath away,” he told her softly, shaking his head slightly. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TTT = 2; Lois = 0. I'm winning!  More! Kaethel (winning!!!! )

Lois, have you considered that Clark can be in love in somebody else but he is not dating with her yet - it's not immoral to try to win Clark over. Remember, it maybe now or never! Show us how you do it!

Wendy, if I hadn't already known you were done writing this story, I might have thought you took all my suggestions from the last part. So I agree with Jose. Much better for the guys.  I'm glad Clark resisted the urge to peek. It wouldn't have been fair, and sometimes imagination is even better than seeing. And a beautiful dress. If there were any more sparks between the two of them, they'd have to call in the fire department. This almost-date is going to be good! More soon, Wendy!

You know, I think we should go back and complain and make them sort it out.” I hate Lois comment. :rolleyes: He shook himself out of his thoughts, seeing Lois giving him a faintly impatient glare. “No,” he answered, softening the refusal with a smile. “Lois, I’ve already spent more than I can afford today. And I like the stuff here. Too much. I don’t want to try anything on in case I like it even more.” He gave her a self-deprecating grin. “Look, next month when I’ve paid off some of today’s purchases, I’ll come back here - you can even come with me if you’d like to give me the benefit of your advice - and I’ll think about buying one.”
“Black leather,” she said instantly. “Not padded or quilted - you don’t need it.” Poor Clark.  “I... well, I guess I should consider buying it, then,” she said, even though she’d had no such intention.
“Really? That’s great!” Clark grinned, but then he seemed to catch himself. “Uh... it looks expensive...”
Lois caught the price-tag which hung from the edge of the dress. It was expensive - almost $300. That was a lot of money... but on the other hand, this was a terrific dress. And if it could inspire that kind of reaction in a man, then it was worth every penny. Wasn’t it? Its time she spend money. More soon, please. MAF

Great section, Wendy. I loved the black lingerie and that Clark picked out the perfect dress for her -- just as well he didn't peek in the bag, or he'd never be able form a coherent sentence at dinner, thinking about what was under the dress. Kathy (who thinks $300 sounds fine for the dress in question ... it says "nicer than average but not obscenely expensive" to me. )

Well, at least Wendy has thrown us guys a bone with Lois' dress, but... at least the shopping spree is over. Now we get into the meat. The not quite, almost a date that will lead to all the angst and problems that Wendy will have to introduce in order make this a typically long Wendy fic It's kind of nice to see Kaethel coming around to my way of thinking. After all she threatens to go after Lois with shears and we all know what shears are for. Tank (who doesn't like aimless wandering through a shopping mall unless it's to look at tools, or guitars)

Another good section, Wendy. I'm glad the hair cut turned out fine. And Lois wouldn't be Lois if she hadn't had something to complain about. Too bad Clark didn't even try that jacket on. I could have used some more  . But it does make sense that he doesn't want to spend any more money. I don't think I ever bought so many clothes in only one day. I'm looking forward to their dinner. It should be more fun. Just one question. As I haven't really mentioned it lately, and so far this has been sweet, innocent and rather waffy, any chance on some action? I could see other guys hitting at Lois in that dress, which makes Clark jealous... Saskia

Is it the shopaholic in us, I wonder? <g> And "Lois And Clark Go Shopping" - isn't that one of those bland, nothing-happens type of fics that any of us with a modicum of angst in our souls usually avoids? Back to thank everyone very much again for your kind and wonderful comments on Part 5. I had exactly the same thought after I wrote that paragraph - but then I decided, why not? Kathy, thanks for chipping in on the matter of the price of the dress. Yes, I was thinking quality but not catwalk-designer level: the kind of thing which could be bought off the rack in a place like Neiman's or Nordstrom's rather than from the likes of Rodeo Drive. So a special dress for Lois - probably one of the most expensive things in her wardrobe (remembering that this is 1994! ) but not the kind of thing she'd need a mortgage to buy. <g> I'm glad the guys had a bit more fun with this one. Roger, yeah, I had the scenes with Lois -lingerie-buying and the dress - written since some time earlier this year, so you were definitely channelling my hard drive. <g> Glad you liked it! And sorry you were still somewhat bored, Tank.  Actually, this story is - well, not exactly inspired by, but possibly influenced by an experience I had a few years ago, when I took a male friend of ours under my wing. Like Clark, he was tall, dark and good-looking - unfortunately, he was completely unconvinced of the latter, and he hadn't a clue how to dress, in terms of style, fit or colour. Basically, he was a mess! So over a period of a month or so we went shopping. I find it a lot of fun - not to mention the ogling-opportunities involved! - watching someone try on clothes you know are going to look terrific on him. So I can certainly understand exactly how Lois feels in this story. And "Lois And Clark Go Shopping" - isn't that one of those bland, nothing-happens type of fics that any of us with a modicum of angst in our souls usually avoids? Wendy, I'm worried for you.
