"I feel so unsure, Clark," Lois said. "I can't risk hurting you again. I can't say that I will stay with you if there is any chance that I will change my mind."
"Are you going to ask me to take you to Metropolis tomorrow?"
She sighed. "I don't know."
"I was wrong to insist that you guarantee this is forever. I was wrong to even ask."
"No, you weren't," Lois said. "I wanted to give you forever."
"I'm not asking for forever now," Clark said earnestly. "I'm asking for tomorrow. I'm asking that you will still be here with me tomorrow night." Tight coils gripped his stomach as he awaited her reply.
"OK," Lois said finally. "I'll still be here tomorrow."
Clark felt the gush of his relief. "Thank you." It's way past time to again thank my wonderful trio of BRs - Iolanthe, Deja Vu, and Lynn.  Corrina.

Wow that was getting them somewhere. Apathy is a horrible place to be. It is an avoidance of depression. She needs to get it out. I know she will soon. I am glad Clark is thinking about kissing her. Looking forward to more soon. Laura

Hi Corrina,
I'm woefully behind on feedback after last week, but it's not due to any less love of the story on my part! Rather than wait to catch up, I thought I'd jump in here and then hopefully get back to the other parts later.
I'm loving the direction the story has taken. As much as I hate to see Lois so low, I'm glad it's happening now so they can work through it together and come out whole on the other side. I love Clark using her methods from the cell back on her. The ankle massage was so sweet. And Yay! for her asking him to stay with her.
Love this story, thanks for the update!

Another excellent part with the much awaited hair wash! I kept thinking that if Clark just grabs Lois and kisses her, then she will feel something other than numbness, but I can wait for the (much anticipated) kiss a little while longer. But the hair wash and ankle rub was really sweet as was Lois asking Clark to stay with her and him not opting for the sleeping bag! Don't think I've mentioned it recently, but I love this story! As always, waiting eagerly for the next update

She stood on her tiptoes, trying to adjust the angle so she could see the lower ends of the scratches. After less than a second, she gave up. Both she and Clark had survived him dressing them last night; they would both survive if he did it again today. That really is a good question. Will Clark survive this again? And how long will it take before he won't survive it again  Michael

A poignant chapter, but very necessary. And hopeful and cautiously optimistic, too, because we all know that Clark being Clark -- along with a little time -- is all Lois needs to eventually get through this. Clark's recreation of their interactions while he was prisoner -- washing her hair, rubbing her ankle, sitting together in silence -- was good thinking on his part. It may well have been all he knew to do, but the message was definitely received by Lois. As depressed and traumatized as she is right now, she's still able to recognize that their positions were reversed just a short time ago and those memories are getting through to her. Her realization that saying she was leaving could have destroyed all the trust she'd built with him is a good sign -- she's starting to think outside herself again, and is trying not to hurt him further. I'm eager for more because I want to see what happens next, but not because I saw this as a cliffhanger. I'm definitely seeing progress. Kathy

I love where this is going! It's nice to see them recapture so much of what they had in the cell. I love your whole story, but the parts when they were together in his cell were some of the most poignant and moving.
The portrayal of Clark's fear through Lois's eyes was really touching, as was his fear that she would leave him. I like her thoughts about how she destroyed the trust she had worked so hard to build, because I have to admit I was thinking something along the same lines.
I'm so glad she's beginning to feel a bit more--and that she said she wouldn't leave tomorrow. I just hope they both realize pretty soon--or when the time is right, of course--that tomorrow can easily turn into forever.

Laura Apathy is a horrible place - but if it's short-term, perhaps it gives a chance to take stock of things. Emily I'm glad you're back on board - hopefully all the sickness is behind you. Yeah - Clark using Lois's methods in her  DW I kept thinking that if Clark just grabs Lois and kisses her If Moyne hadn't threatened rape, there is a chance he might have. Michael But did it catch up with her knee-jerk reaction to say 'yes' because Clark needs it or because her brain is willing to admit she wants it while her heart his scared senseless. Both? Didn't Lois or Clark already tell her that he's already taken? Sort of. Here's the quote ... Rachel retreated down the stairs and out the front door. She turned and looked up at him. "See you soon, Clark," she said affectionately. "Perhaps we could have dinner together once you're settled."
Lois reached for the door handle but said nothing.
"I don't think I'll be ready to socialise much for a while," he said. "Lois says this is going to take some time."
Rachel took a moment to digest that. "Lois, huh?" she said.
Clark nodded firmly. "Lois." You can't really blame Rachel for making sure. Kathy she's starting to think outside herself again, Exactly. And that is always a positive sign. AntiK I'm glad you like where it's going. The bits I like writing least are just before and just after a big dramatic event. Thanks, everyone, Corrina.
