Hi FoLCs!

This is Kerth Quiz #9- Best New Author

Instructions are blatantly copied/linked from last year’s Kerth Quizzes (or even further back than that).

SPIFFY DISCLAIMER THINGY! All the stories featured in this quiz qualify for the Best New Author Category, but this quiz is not a stamp of recommendation for nomination. There are other stories which qualify for this category, but this quiz only covers 10 randomly chosen ones.

Recommendations for other eligible stories are *very* welcome and encouraged!

QUIZ RULES: Two points for getting the story and author from the quote; one point for getting it from the excerpt. Specify which is which, or you'll automatically get one point instead of two. (Also, don't forget to mention which number you're answering.) Open hard drive and archive, *don't* forget to snip the excerpts in your replies, and don't forget the spoiler space when you post in the replies thread. Plus, shiny gold stars for those who recognize their own stories (which, sadly, is harder than it looks, but mostly in the Epic and Long Story Categories though).

The DEADLINE for entries for this quiz is Sunday, February 14, 2016, by 11:59 p.m (Pacific Time Zone).

Please post your answers HERE .

Good luck!
Susan

QUOTE #1:

Jimmy continued, “But where is the baby?”

QUOTE #2:

Mary Frances knew it was none of her business. Still, she couldn’t resist seeing if she could make his day and maybe help Lois.

QUOTE #3:

Lois didn't want one of those wall-flower pictures, a mere recording that she was at the party. She wanted the picture to really jump out, make a poignant statement of the whole reason she dressed up as a 1940's nurse.

QUOTE #4:

It was twelve days before Christmas. Lois and Clark were putting up their Christmas tree with their child. She was now eight so she helped a lot.

QUOTE #5:

“Thank you for your help, General Grant. The President will be grateful to you. Someday soon you will command the Army of the Potomac.”

EXCERPT #1:

When Clark got to the hospital he made sure she was ok and went into the toilet and changed into his Superman suit. He took off and used his x-ray vision and went all over Metropolis. Jimmy and Perry searched the Daily Planet. All of them couldn’t find the baby. While Lois was in hospital, she made a name for her baby. Her name was Rosaline.

EXCERPT #2:

The day had started out harmlessly enough. She and Sisters Barbara and Margaret were shopping. Unfortunately, there was a car pileup and their minivan somehow ended up under not one but two cars. Thanks to Superman, everyone got out alive. Why, he even went back to rescue their toys for the orphans!

Who wouldn’t love that man? Well, criminals… but they didn’t count.

EXCERPT #3:

When the invitations to the party came out, there was a lot of hub-bub about costumes and makeup: who would wear what, who would go with whom, things like that. Lois heard, but didn't participate in their conversations. She had decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. There had been a lot of press leading up to the big celebration in Times Square on August 15, but Lois thought the day so pivotal to the forming of the word as it is today, that she should pay homage in some way.

EXCERPT #4:

That evening Lois spoiled the turkey and it looked like a black brick. She said, "It doesn't matter, we can have a take-out with Perry and Jimmy." And so they phoned them and invited them round. Jimmy loved the turkey. He had more of the take-out than anyone. Everyone stated to laugh because Jimmy was greedy.

EXCERPT #5:

Did he live in fear someone would expose him? Like her after what happened when she met him last year. Oh my! She didn’t want anyone to fear her! She would never tell! And who would believe her anyway? She was obviously delusional at the time, and thought it was General Grant she saw. She never even told Tad, and he knew all of her secrets. But this one was HUGE and not hers to tell.
