The Superboy series was the opposite of Lois & Clark in that it starter out atrocious, but each season improved. I wouldn't recommend the first two seasons, but the last two had some really good episodes, if you don't mind a little camp. (The series became less campy as it progressed; the first season made the 1960's Batman series look like Gotham by comparison.)

I was surprised to see in this series (which predated L&C) a lot of concepts that I had thought unique in the Superman-verse to L&C; for example, Clark's spin-change-of-clothes. Some of the plot lines -- both good and bad -- were also shared in both series.
