Does anyone here use the Apple's AirPort Express with a DSL modem (PPPoE)?

I was trying to set it to use 802.11n only, but I can only get a PPPoE connection if I set the channel to "Automatic". Any other choice of channel doesn't allow me to connect (the AirPort keeps trying to connect and fails).
Anyone experience this, or have an explanation to this? I wanted to use a fixed channel, to avoid interference with other electronics, but I can't while this problem is not solved.
