Ok, I have Windows Vista since a week and I seem to have a problem with the Movie Maker. I have my LC-episodes saved as AVIs and those AVIs can be displayed perfectly with the Media Player. But when I try Windows Vista Movie Maker, there is only sound and a black image.

The AVI files work perfectly under Windows XP (Movie Player and Movie Maker) so I think they are technically ok. I thought that perhaps some codecs are missing under Vista, but like I said, the AVIs run with Movie Player ... confused

Any ideas? help

Maybe try the program's help file? There might be a troubleshooting section which will tell you what to do--what codecs you need, etc--when certain things go wrong.

I've had a lot of problems with Windows Vista and movie maker, too. I've had videos that looked fine encode with huge green bands at the bottom. Honestly, I think Vista is still just a bit buggy in this respect.

I found this answer in the Microsoft forum . It seems it's the same problem you're refering to:

Re: Vista OS wont' play or edit AVI (Media Player or Movie Maker)

Go to http://www.divx.com/ and download the free package .. that fixed my .avi files playing with sound but no pix... I tried several other things which did not work ... I was getting the black screen with Irfanview, Realplayer, WMP 11.. all were repaired
I hope it helps.

My Windows Vista wouldn't run Movie Maker. It was installed but didn't work. I tried Windows' help but it hadn't any useful information. After a searching on the net I discovered that I should download Movie Maker 2.6. grumble Their preferred recommendation is: REINSTALL WINDOWS. Gah! I hate it! wallbash
